Merry Christmas 2008!

Hoping everyone is healthy & happy at this special time of year.  The Mayers are all doing great and have welcomed a new member to the family.  His name is Thai, and he is a mixed breed from our local humane society.
2008 was another year of skiing, hiking, camping at the lake and swimming in the river.  We spent April on Casey Key Island and snorkeling in the Florida Keys & The Dry Tortugas.  Over 4th of July, the Mayer clan gathered for a reunion in Gruene ,Texas.  Black Bear Realty now has 6 agents … (0 comments)

The Snow has Arrived!
Just in time for the holidays, we got a dumping of "Chamber Of Commerce" snow!  That's snow that is light and fluffy and easy to shovel.  Perfect for skiing and sledding but not the kind of storm tourist wont drive in.
 
So far today we have over 6 inches and the forecast is for snow all day.

Bretton Woods, NH Real Estate Update - 12/12/08 09:24 AM
ICE STORM!
 
A good day to stay inside and drink hot chocolate in front of a fire. The East coast is getting a thick coating of ice today.  Schools are closed, power is out around town, but at Black Bear Realty we are open for business. 
Three clients braved the storm and were out looking at homes.  The combination of low interest rates, motivated sellers and dropping home prices are making the resort and second home market show signs of recovery. 
The skiers might not like the weather, but they appreciate the opportunities out there for great properties at great prices.

12th Annual Inn to Inn Cookie Tour
Saturday & Sunday 11am till 4pm
December 13-14,  2008

Every year the Inns of the White Mountains get together for a fun Inn to Inn Gingerbread tour.  Black Bear Realty was proud to sponsor one of the displays in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  This year the Mayer family got together and designed and baked the centerpiece displayed at The Wildflower Inn.
 
This year's theme was "Holidays Around The World".

A New Member Of The Family!

This weekend we found a beautiful six month old Siamese Mix at the Conway Humane Society www.ConwayShelter.org .  He is perfect!  Valerie had grown up with Siamese as a child and Thai was in need of a home.  We lost our 17 year old Black Lab - Boxer Mix Winslow "Homer" The Furred last January and had waited to find someone special to fill the void.  Thai is very mellow, loves to be held, and seems more like a dog than a cat.

REALTORS push the Treasury department to drastically lower mortgage interest rates.
"What would it take to get you to buy a home in this market?"
The National Association of REALTORS have pushed the Treasury department to consider directly offering mortgages as low as 4.5% for a NEW 30 year fixed rate term.  The mortgage markets have already dropped half a percent on the rumor. 
But would a 4.5% mortgage make you go out and risk buying a new home or vacation property?  First, you would need to ask, "Are the current 5.5% mortgages too high?"  Second, if you can't qualify for a mortgage today … (0 comments)

This time of year in the White Mountains it can be hard to get outside.  The skiing is still limited to a few trails at each mountain and most people just hunker down inside. 
 
 
But, if you get out and hike some of the great loop trails in and around North Conway you will love it.  The woods have a totally different feel in the Winter.
