Project Blogger Pre-Morteum weeks 1 - 11/12 Or What I Think So Far... (Revised for easier reading :-) - 06/29/07 04:46 PM
Hi All,
Before I dive into the meat of this post, I want to be VERY, VERY CLEAR, my opinions shared below are just that, OPINIONS and any comments, unless I attribute them to a specific individual or entity are general and for illustrative purposes only.
I am not attacking any one person, or any one site.  But, after 11, now nearly 12 very long and sometimes quite contentious weeks I have some things that I wish to say.  Not because I "believe they need to be said" or because "someone has to say them" but because I feel that for me … (18 comments)

I GOT PUBLISHED!!!! Err... Um... Ahem... (Recovering Decorum) I Got Published Today - 06/28/07 02:50 AM
Hi All,
Well today was truly a banner day.  I am amazed by how many of those I seem to be having now that I have discovered Active Rain, been selected for Project Blogger and started Route66Living.com.  But today truly earned the title "Banner Day".  Why?  Because, today I had a very lengthy article (it was half a newspaper page, shocking I know, who would have thought that I would write a lengthy article :-) published in my local board's (Citrus Valley Association of REALTORS) July Issue Member's Newspaper the REALTOR News..  The link to the story is not up yet as it is … (20 comments)

What Tisza's Reading :-) A "Random Readers Book Report" Group post - 06/27/07 04:28 AM
Hi All,
Let me start by saying that I am a voracious reader.  I read everything - even cleanser cans are not safe (I don't use the cleanser in them, but I will happily read the package).  As a result, I am never found anywhere without at least one book in my possession at all times.  I am usually in the midst of three or more at once and, owing to a traumatic childhood experience, I don't fold page corner's down and seldom use bookmarks, I just remember what page I left off on.
I also seldom read fiction (and I don't write … (7 comments)

Spamming My Way Down Memory Lane :-) - 06/26/07 11:44 PM
Hi All,
Today has been interesting, apparently a whole bunch of Ancient Greeks got together and decided to make comments on some of our posts.  Those ancients sure do like their cars... But, as usual, I digress.  Fortunately, AR has a great system in place to handle things like this, but it sure has amused the heck out of me.
It really has been a bit of a trip down memory lane for me.  Sort of a look through my Active Rain baby book, if you will.  This has dredged up posts that were made in my very earliest days here, some when … (35 comments)

The Thumper Principle - 06/25/07 12:42 AM
Hi All,
Last week I talked about the Universe listening to everything you say, but sometimes I think people need to remember that it is not just the Universe that is listening.  Your clients are listening but unlike the Universe your clients may not be nearly as forgiving.
Venting your spleen, no matter how cathartic it may seem at the time, tells the folks reading what you wrote a whole lot more about who you really are as a person than it does about the topic you may be commenting on.
I don't use an RSS feeder myself (mainly because I haven't the faintest … (18 comments)

How To Work The Streets For Fun And Profit... And Yes, Your Mom Would Be Proud :-) - 06/24/07 02:40 AM
Hi All,
When I was a kid my mom told me that if I studied hard and stayed in school I would never wind up working the streets.  Well, she was wrong about that because I did study VERY hard, feel like I have never left school and I find myself working the streets regularly and I am darned proud of it.  How can that be?  Simple, I work the street... Faires! :-)
Last Thursday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM and every Thursday for the next weeks to come, until October you can find me working the crowd at the Upland Street Faire.  For me, these … (11 comments)

How I Gave Up Project Blogger And Learned To Love The Bomb... - 06/23/07 04:07 AM
Hi All,
First things first, I am not really giving up Project Blogger... What I am giving up is any preconceived notions I have had, or held on to, since this experience began.
Project Blogger for me has been an amazing opportunity and a very galvanizing activity.  It catapulted me from "I would like to do" straight into the heart of "I am doing" and without this contest I know I would not have started my site Route66Living.com period, end of story.
Project Blogger has also been a challenge in ways that it probably should have not been, a frustration in areas … (25 comments)

Attention: There Will Be No 100th Post... I Declare This My 101st. - 06/22/07 04:02 AM
Hi All,
If I weren't so amused by this I think I would cry.  I have been trying to compose a 100th post for the past three days and each day something has conspired against me.
First, AR was broken so that kept me from my task.  Then, I was just too dang tired to see, let alone type straight, so another day bites the dust.  And now, after spending almost 1 1/2 hours crafting a post, mere seconds before I was ready to sign my name, run it through good old spell check and send it on its merry way... One … (20 comments)

99 Blogging Posts On The Wall... 99 Posts Right Here - 06/19/07 01:30 AM
Hi All,
This marks my 99th post here on Active Rain.  99 posts in 80 days. Whew!  No wonder I am tired :-) And that only includes the posts that have appeared here, not the ones that were created solely for Route66Living.com.  Nor does it include the hundreds of comments I have made, most of which could be posts in and of themselves, (just ask ARDELL :-).  And while this is an achievement, and it feels like one to be sure, I am not the first to get here, and at the rate that AR is growing I won't be anywhere near … (26 comments)

I Think Therefore I Blog... Sometimes... - 06/19/07 12:14 AM
Hi All,
An interesting thing has happened to me over these past few weeks.  I have begun to learn how to free my voice and hold my tounge.  I have learned to look before I leap (a novel experience for me I assure you).  And I have learned to make liberal use of the "draft" designation for a post.
Oh, don't get me wrong, for the most part what I write just flows straight from my brain to my fingertips.   But occasionally, just occasionally what comes out my fingers is not what I intended.  Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes … (11 comments)

The Universe Is Listening So Be Careful What You Say... - 06/16/07 02:15 AM
Hi All,
Today was not a particularly distinguished day.  I actually spent the better part of it lying low.  I have apparently developed a heel spur on my right foot that looks like I am wearing a permanent stiletto, I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me that I needed to stay off of my feet as much as possible to get the swelling to go down.  So, I have been stuck on the couch with my feet up per Doctor's orders (I am finding it difficult to maintain the "poor me" face necessary to engender sympathy from My Mel and … (36 comments)

"Fluffy" Writing - Why I Like It And Why It's Good - 06/14/07 01:21 AM
Hi All,
Fluffy Writing is something that I have been meaning to talk about for quite a while, but quite frankly hadn't gotten to yet.  Get this, I go into Real Estate partly because my theatrical agent has forgotten that I am alive, and now that I am up to my neck in RE I start getting auditions again.  Go figure...  Anyway, back to the subject at hand, fluff.
I think that fluff is valuable stuff, very valuable stuff indeed.  For me there is a vast difference between pointless stuff that offers nothing of substance or value and fluff.  Is it bad to write … (11 comments)

Confession Is Good For The Soul... Or "Thank You Kevin It's Time I Came Clean" - 06/12/07 06:20 AM
Hi All,
As you all know blogging is all about transparency and in view of that fact Kevin Tomlinson outed me I think I need to be totally honest with you all about who I am and what I'm up to...
I am not the girl I appear to be.  For starters, the long, dark red hair... A total fraud.  I actually have long silky blonde locks that cascade like a waterfall down my back and over my shoulders.
The fair skin and freckles?  Photoshop.  My natural skin tone is well, much more unique.  Anyone seen Wicked?  Let's just say that Elphaba and I could be … (38 comments)

(Sung) "Are You Going To San Francisco"... (Shouted!) I Am! I Am! - 06/10/07 01:59 PM
Hi All,
After last night's fabulous AR Birthday party here in Los Angeles (actually in Long Beach :-), I got to thinking that with Inman Blogger's Connectless than two months away it might be fun to see who is planning on being there.  I am hoping that all of the Project Blogger apprentice's and their coaches will be making the trek.
I know that I will be there with bell's on and my wonderful coach Drew Meyer's will be there as well.  I will be attending the event solo as My Mel won't be able to get the time off of work :-(  (But, … (18 comments)

AR Los Angeles Party ROCKS! - 06/10/07 06:14 AM
Hi All,
Well, here it is 2:10 AM and I am wide awake and typing as fast as my fingers can fly.  I have had two diet cokes so I may be up for days :-)  I wanted to tell you all about the AR Los Angeles Get Together which was held tonight at Parkers Lighthouse in Long Beach.
Before I even start with my personal recap, I want to thank the AR Gods themselves, Matt Heaton and Jonathan Washburn and the God's Little Helpers Jeff Turner, Laurie Manny, for and incredible, elegant and truly magical experience.
I got to the party a … (40 comments)

Looking For a Great Place To Eat? Inka Trails Lead Right To Claremont - 06/09/07 11:45 AM
Hi All,
If you are in the neighborhood, or if you could be, check out Inka Trails a wonderful Peruvian restaurant located at 1077 Foothill Boulevard in Claremont, on the corner of Foothill and Towne Avenues.  Foothill Boulevard originally was Historic Route 66 and still carries the signage, character and some of the buildings that date back to it's heyday.
Inka Trails is a restaurant like few I have ever gone too.  The food is unique, traditional Peruvian cuisine.  Peruvian food shows its roots, having influences from Japan, China and South America all happily comingled.  For a full review of this delightful dining … (4 comments)

Happy Birthday ARDELL!!!!!!! - 06/09/07 12:19 AM
Hi All,
Just wanted to take a moment to wish ARDELL a whopping big HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
ARDELL, I hope you like fresh lemon cake :-)
Enjoy your day.  And may you have many, many more!

I Know What's Wrong With Real Estate And I Know How To Fix It... - 06/08/07 09:11 PM
Hi All,
Let me start by saying that I am fully aware of the fact that making a statement like the one in the title of this post "I Know What's Wrong With Real Estate And I Know How To Fix It", is bold, brash and yes, cocky.  However, I think I do, I really, really do.  Are you ready?  Here it is... Television!  Television is what is wrong with Real Estate.
How can that be you ask?  Well let me tell you...
The recent proliferation of reality and pseudo reality shows that profile every aspect of the industry, present a picture to the consumer that is … (21 comments)

Pay No Attention To The Agent Behind The Curtain... - 06/08/07 02:20 AM
Hi All,
Last week I posted a blog entitled "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way Out To Dinner".  I was writing mostly for fun, but a couple of comments I received sparked a conversation with my hubby and then, ultimately today's offering.
A couple of folks mentioned how people sometimes "sound" different in person than they do online.  So I asked My Mel if I am the same in here as I am "out there".  In other words, do I truly present the same voice in person?  Am I the "Great And Powerful Oz" here or just "The Agent Behind The Curtain"?
I have … (14 comments)

Claremont's Cruise Night Is Coming Up! - 06/07/07 02:36 AM
Hi All,
For all you classic car buffs (like me) out there, I just posted a piece about Claremont's upcoming Cruise Night.  This is an awesome family friendly event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month from March through October.
The car show starts at 5 PM and runs till 8 PM with a parade of the winning cars at the end of the event.  Pop over to Route66Living.com to take a look at my virtual tour of last month's event and let me know what you think of it.  There are some beautiful cars on display and I guarantee you will … (4 comments)

Do Clothes Make The Agent... Or Is It More About Your Who Or Your "Wear"? - 06/06/07 01:08 AM
Hi All,
I have been wondering this for quite a while and I have been fighting a bit of a losing battle thus far at my office.  Our office has a "professional" dress code that agents are expected to adhere to if they are going to be in the office for more than 15 minutes during business hours.  Basically, what it boils down too is no jeans except on Fridays.
This is a bit of a quandary for me.  You see, I am much more of a jeans and t-shirts kind of girl.  Partly because that is my personality (like the picture wouldn't have … (37 comments)

It Happened Again! Route66Living.com Gets Another Real, Live Client! - 06/04/07 11:01 PM
Hi All,
I just got off the phone after speaking to my newest blogging client.  She found me after doing a Google search and gave me a call to get help looking for a home in Claremont or Upland.
We are meeting tomorrow morning to look at some homes.  I am loving this!  So far this will be the second actual client that I will meet with who has come to me directly as a result of my blogging activities.  If anyone is in any doubt as to the value of blogging, I am living proof that this works.  This works really … (20 comments)

10 Ways NOT To Sell A Home In A Buyer's Market... - 06/02/07 01:12 AM
Hi All,
A while back I published a list of 10 ways not to buy a home in a buyer's market. But I realized that ignored all you potential seller's out there, so I decided it was only fair to "help" you folks as well. Here are the 10 best ways I know of NOT to sell a home in a buyer's market.
10. Over price your home.
You know how the game is played. You know that your home is special. And you don't care what the market shows you.
You are going to list your home for as much … (19 comments)

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way Out To Dinner - 06/01/07 03:26 AM
Hi All,
It happened... finally it happened... I saw, actually I caught my husband in the act.  I was shocked.  I wondered if it was my fault.  Did I push him into it?  Or would it have happened even without me.  Who can say... perhaps it was destiny.  Perhaps it was fate... Perhaps it was something else entirely.  But today, when I least expected it, I walked into my husband's office and discovered him in the middle of... BLOGGING!
Oh, he didn't want to admit to it, in fact he was pretty adamant that he was not blogging only "posting" to a site … (20 comments)

Two Months On Active Rain... In Celebration And Gratitude - 06/01/07 02:42 AM
Hi All,
Tonight I find myself caught in a moment of reflection.  I have come upon my second months anniversary here on AR and I have been thinking about all the people that I have met and the things that have occurred which have changed my world.
Of course Project Blogger has made a huge impact, the full scope of which has yet to be felt.  But before the contest there were the people...
ARDELL, Laurie, janeAnne, Maggie, Irina, Kelly, Mary, Drew, Kevin, Bob, Maggie, Jeff, Kaye, Dustin, and all 808 comments that I have received on the 78, now 79 posts that I have … (12 comments)
