Cheshire County NH, Home to Famous Baseball Team Located in Cheshire County, NH, just south of Keene, is the pleasant little town of Winchester. It is here in Winchester in the late 1800's when a family of nine brothers formed a baseball team. Winfield Thompson was home on vacation from Amherst College in 1896 when he gathered his eight brothers to play a game of baseball.  They would play in the cow pasture after their farm chores were done.  The Thompson Nine played 18 games the next summer and won 16 of them!
