fremont homes: Fremont Joins Energy Efficiency Program - 01/19/10 04:53 PM
On Tuesday, Jan 11, the Fremont City Council voted to join the California FIRST financing program. As reported in last week's issue, California FIRST is a voluntary program that provide loans to homeowners to finance energy efficiency upgrades. The loans are repaid through a special property tax assessment.
Recently the City of Hayward joined this program and Bay East staff testified in favor of the California FIRST program and urged Hayward to involve the REALTOR® community in designing and marketing the program. Bay East offered the same support and cooperation to the City of Fremont.

On Tuesday the Fremont City Council approved an ordinance that allows individual neighborhoods to temporarily limit second story additions. They also directed staff to develop design standards for these types of additions. The ordinance is the city's response to the proliferation of large additions in some areas of Fremont and the wishes of residents from the Glenmoor and Mission Ranch neighborhoods to preserve the "single story" nature of their neighborhoods.
After reviewing this issue and hearing a presentation from Fremont Planning Department staff at their May meeting, the Local Government Relations Council decided the ordinance would negatively impact private property rights, could complicate … (1 comments)

fremont homes: Second Story Additions in Fremont - 05/29/08 06:36 AM
On June 24 the Fremont City Council will be considering an ordinance that could lead to a ban on second-story additions.
Jeff Schwob, Fremont's Planning Director, briefed the Local Government Relations Council on this proposed ordinance at their May 27 meeting.  This is a tricky subject for REALTORS®. On one hand, the ability to remodel a home - within applicable zoning and building codes - is a fundamental private property right. However, large-home additions in some Fremont neighborhoods may impact the value of neighboring properties. Bay East is working with the City to ensure that any ordinance that directs home … (7 comments)
