Connections-Difficult to Make But Easy to Break - 06/29/11 11:16 PM
Connections-Difficult to Make But Easy to BreakThere are a few places in our yard where spiders often make webs to snare their next meal. If you look at their webs, they are engineered marvels. So precisely connected with thin, delicate strands connecting the full 360º space. We have similar connections in the business world. Think of our telecommunications networks-voice, data, social networks. What brought this to mind is our corporate communications system. Our e-mail system is being over hauled. We were told that the system was being migrated to new server and that service would be down for the cut-over from about … (4 comments)

Need Some 20's? I Know Where to Get Some - 06/28/11 06:50 PM
Need Some 20's? I know where to get some.
I listed a home for an older gentleman who had an interesting request. As he was showing me his house on the listing appointment, we came to his laundry room. In this room he has a set of four shiny rims with tires. These measure twenty (20) inches, thus they are known as 20's.
Now if you are not a young guy of a certain age, you probably don't care if they are twelves, sixteens, or thirtys, you just want something dependable. The Seller asked if I knew anyone who wanted some 20s. Well, … (0 comments)

Declutter and Organize - 06/26/11 06:39 PM
DECLUTTER
We always talk about the need to declutter your house when you put it on the market. But do you realize how much time you can save if you get rid of stuff you don't use? Earlier today, I read a post by Ricki Eichler titled, "I Have Stuff". Ricki decided to reduce the amount of stuff she has been keeping. Take a look at her post.
I know that's a good idea. I'm been trying to get the files on my computer better organized. I've sort have been forced to so it takes less time to get files. We … (10 comments)

Men's Fashion and Vintage Home Appliances - 06/21/11 09:58 PM
Men's Fashion and Vintage Home AppliancesSo how can I weave a blog post that makes sense out of two such different subjects: Men's fashion and vintage home appliances.Over the past couple of weeks, I've shown some vintage houses. A couple of them had appliances from the '70s. That would be 1970s, not 1870s. Some may remember the Harvest Gold Kenmore or Whirlpool model refrigerators and ranges. Many of these are still in and operating successfully. Kind of funny because many of the appliances from the '90s have been replaced. I guess that saying they don't make them like they used to … (7 comments)

How to Get The Best Deal Possible When Buying a Home - 06/20/11 03:27 PM
How to Get The Best Deal Possible When Buying a HomeEverybody wants a good deal. Nobody wants to get taken to the cleaners in any transaction. In real estate deals, where there can be anywhere from a few thousands to several millions of dollars at risk for the parties to the transaction, each side is looking for an edge. That's the way the free market works.A seller places their home on the market with an offer price. As a buyer, the price tells you the maximum amount the seller believes they can get for the property. So as a buyer, we … (2 comments)

Rolling Thunder Salute - 06/18/11 05:41 PM
Although this story is about an impressive Marine NCO, it is also about all who serve in the U. S. Armed Forces. The few, the proud, the Marines.
Although I'm a former Army guy, I appreciate the service of all current and former members of the U. S. Armed Forces. We have good-natured ribbing about the superior prowess of one service over the others, but we all serve for the common good.

Things Home Buyers Should Do Before or Right After Closing (My Top Ten) - 06/18/11 01:07 AM
Things Home Buyers Should Do Before or Right After Closing (My Top Ten) Home buyers have lots of things to consider as they take the journey into home ownership. Here are ten things I believe Buyers should do before or soon after Closing:
Home Warranty coverage from a reputable provider. Compare coverages and check their customer satisfaction ratings as best you can. I know some companies have poor reputations in this area, but a good policy with reputable business people is worth its weight in gold. I just had a visit with a client who closed last October. He mentioned the … (11 comments)

Bedtime Ditty Comes to Life: Talking About Bed Bugs - 06/13/11 10:50 AM
Bedtime Ditty Comes to Life: Talking About Bed BugsDid you have a little ritual growing up at bedtime? We had the saying of prayers and with our kids, there was the little ditty:    Good night,  Sleep tight,  Don't let the bed bugs bite.Unfortunately, keeping the bed bugs from biting is becoming a more difficult thing. Especially for travelers. Bed bugs are notorious hitch hikers. If you travel, you could be bringing the little rascals back home with you.Unlike most pests, bed bugs are not usually around because of a lack of sanitation or cleanliness. There is something about insects and snakes … (16 comments)

Updates for Your San Antonio House: Best Return on Investment - 06/12/11 06:38 PM
Updates for Your San Antonio House: Best Return on InvestmentThe list of things you can do to update, and upgrade your house to make it more attractive for sale is limited only by the time and money you are willing to spend. The best return on investment update for your San Antonio house is does not have to be a big ticket change. It is my opinion that in many cases, homeowners are investing more in the updates and upgrades than warranted. This is my opinion as I have no controlled studies with double blind side-by-side comparisions of consumer behavior in homes updated … (5 comments)

Helotes: Near San Antonio and Hill Country-Nice Place to Live Helotes is a small city with a land area of 4.2 square miles northwest of San Antonio.  There are areas outside the city limit proper that carry the name Helotes in the 78023 zip code. Legend has it that the area around what is now Helotes became a farming and ranching community in the late 1830s. Prior to that, indian tribes used the … (3 comments)

Did You Know: It's National Make A Will Month? - 06/03/11 09:32 AM
Did You Know: It's National Make a Will Month?I heard that June is National Make a Will Month. It was being promoted on radio in an ad sponsored by LegalZoom. You may see a connection here in that LegalZoom's business is to get people to use their self-help services. LegalZoom is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.I saw this brief video from a company in England promoting the National Make a Will Month. Since United State law was based on English law, the principals are the same and if you substitue their use of the word "Crown" for … (10 comments)

Selling Your House: You Are Involved - 06/01/11 10:56 AM
Selling Your House: You Are Involved Selling your house is not just your agent's responsibility. You are involved until the Closing Documents are signed.
When I help Sellers, I ask them to organize and clean the rooms of their house as if they are preparing for a visit by a disapproving mother-in-law, or demanding drill sergeant. You know, the kind of mother-in-law that never likes anything you do, is never satisfied with your cooking, clothing or how you are raising her precious grand kids.
Your mother-in-law is probably not like that, but you have friends where this is the case. You … (13 comments)
