Dealing With The Crying Baby Syndrome in Negotiation - 07/31/11 09:44 AM
In negotiation you will often encounter something akin to a "crying baby". Observing this syndrome strong arm tactic, the other side is trying to tug on you with the symptoms of a very loud person, whining, making YOU feel like you are in the wrong or the bad guy. It is an almost no move stubborn stance they seem to be in. Think of a crying baby and the word TANTRUM.
The defense and the way to move forward from these crying babies is to have none of it. Move away from them, do not accept their loudness and whining and see them … (42 comments)

Finding Tons More Energy With Adequate Sleep - 07/30/11 08:56 AM
I wrote a recent post with our busy lives of feeling good and maintaing proper weight with avoiding fast food as much as possible. Also not thought of near enough is that we can
Find Tons More Energy With Adequate Sleep.
I know we all try to squeeze as much as we can into life with minimal sleep, but adequate sleep which is the number of hours YOU need of quality sleep is like sharpening your axe prior to a new day of chopping down trees.
We all have been there with too few hours sleep. You drag in the middle … (16 comments)

New Texas Rain Gauge - 07/28/11 04:58 PM
I have just come across this morning an advertisement for a New Texas Rain Gauge. It is really the latest rage. I think they are taking orders as fast as they can get them..... if you can't fine one locally I will check with my local WalMart for you and see if they still have any on the shelf.

An Area In Your Life To Not Be So Fast - 07/28/11 11:28 AM
I have been accused of being Mr. Zoom Zoom with my always ON connectivity to the Internet through a wide variety of Internet access I always have with business and personal sides of my life. Speed of connectivity is good, speed of response by phone or email or text is good, everything in balance of course.
I wanted to talk about a healthy lifestyle CHOICE in our busy world daily as a reminder. Other than the smoking habit especially growing by women lately which is so bad from the risks later in life of skin wrinkles, emphysema, lung cancer and believe … (11 comments)

Words Set New Directions For Us - 07/26/11 01:08 PM
I have written a blog or two in the past about holding our tongue and watching negativity coming from our lips. Thinking about how we can impact another's feelings. But also,
Words Set new Directions For Us
Descrbing a home as cozy. Well lit. Large backyard. Wood floors. Skylight in kitchen. We with our words set directions of where we are going with our lifestyle, with our lives. It extends to your personal space. I love you. You are pretty. I don't love you. You are very good at that. I think we should move there. My favorite berry is a … (15 comments)

Getting A Handle On Distractions - 07/25/11 06:47 PM
We all in our business and personal lives need to work better on focus. Other than first figuring out what you want to do based on what is meaningful to you and then prioritizing what to do first, I think the largest impediment in accomplishing something is distraction. So
     Get A Handle On Distraction.
We all know and much has been written on putting smartphones on vibrate with clients at lunch and not checking email and Facebook every minute of your life but time blocking some of that. OK you know that. But what is the key with distraction and … (30 comments)

All Shortcuts Are Not Necessarily Bad - 07/24/11 03:18 PM
I think with high school math teachers in particular they have an aversion to shortcuts, and maybe rightly so.
All Shortcuts Are Not Necessarily Bad.
Take learning multiplication tables or doing multiplying, dividing, adding and subtraction long hand. Surely there is that pocket calculator that could have that answer for you in about two seconds.
I think with all tools or methods we aquire there might be an optimum one to pick as a short cut to save us energy, time or a very good reason, money. To keep forcing people to do things the old way just to learn … (9 comments)

When Confidence Becomes Arrogance Robbing Others Of Joy - 07/23/11 01:41 PM
I thought it might be a good review and a reminder when watching other people and even thinking of ourselves when we have crossed the line. It can happen to any of us
   When Confidence Becomes Arrogance.
It is moving FROM confident ability TO overconfident arrogance.
The key that is lacking is humility. Forgetting our humble roots, some may not even ever had any. In the newest Captain America movie the main character's "goodness" in him now being destined for greatness was started out that he wasn't great at all to begin with. HUMBLE ROOTS.
Non arrogant but confident people point to … (16 comments)

Look To Nature To Prove To Yourself That Dreams Come True All The Time - 07/22/11 12:06 PM
Dreams are like little miracles. In our up and down lives we can lose hope thinking they are fantasies. That they really won't come true. But often what is really needed is steadfastness. Sticking with a dream and not letting go of it.
Look at nature. It is not discouraged. It finds a way.
Never thwarted with anyone saying NO, these little mushrooms FIND A WAY to thrive with giant trees around them. They find their place. A little miracle of LIFE deep in the woods when we pay attention and see it.
Persevere with dreams. They will happen. Little miracles happen … (19 comments)

Surprise Is Life Tickling Us - 07/21/11 03:05 PM
I am convinced another area of life that people play it too safe is with surprise. They just don't realize that
     Surprise Is Life Tickling Us.
Take for example someone waiting and waiting and thinking and thinking about that dream second vacation home in the wooded forest by the lake. But they stay with a dream. They don't act. They essentially do nothing FOR YEARS. It is so pointless on everyone's part, the REALTOR and the buyer. Nothing happens till you act.
The surprises good and bad that you see  happen come from action. You know that decision may just be … (19 comments)

Why Good Customer Service Is Critical - 07/20/11 01:12 PM
In a service related profession like real estate, good customer service is critical. Why? We want happy clients so there is repeat business from them at some point, referrals, or just to know they are satisfied with a job well done. But what if we are slipshod or erratic in not giving customer service?
Why is good customer service critical?
Word of mouth. And NOT the good kind. It is EMOTIONALLY CHARGED negative word of mouth. For every oops category of bad customer service you give people will probably vociferously tell 20 !!!! people what a poor job you did.

Fill 'Er Up At The Pump Of Your Life - 07/19/11 01:29 PM
Back in yesteryear, and I am probably dating myself, other than the states of Oregon and New Jersey there WAS NO self service gas stations.
They always had attendants. Riding around with Dad with the 23 cents per gallon gas you would hear something like 'Fill 'Er Up." The attendant would wash your windows, check the oil, and even give you this week's free set of tumblers (drinking glasses). Now THOSE were the days. But think similarly to

Lest We Forget It Is A People Business - 07/18/11 12:45 PM
I was reading over on another blogger's post about prospective tenants not being able to fill out all the blanks in a lease application. Kind of like they only wanted to fill out the EASY answers. So silly. Lots of rants about individuals all over in real estate, clients and Associates. Reminded me

Can Google Answer The Question What Is The Meaning Of Life? - 07/17/11 03:39 PM
Sometimes I think with the proliferation of smart mobile devices everywhere I ask myself
Can Google Answer The Question What Is The Meaning Of Life?
We all need to be critical thinkers and not plug in some question and instantly have a correct answer.
Zillow web site home values are "estimates." Better to ALSO check with a REALTOR.
Read hard copy information from reports, newspapers, magazines and talk with real world PEOPLE about things besides online sites. Read much more than one or two sources.

Going Out On A Limb With Safety Requires Calculated Risk - 07/16/11 03:38 PM
So often I tell people in life you must risk to grow. Risk is a normal part of life whether learning to walk as a baby, choosing a significant other, starting a new career, expanding a business, or even climbing a tree or a mountain. It is all good but

Can People Pick You Out Of A Police Lineup?? - 07/15/11 06:40 PM
It is interesting in the world of the accused. The top CEO's and bankers that get caught with their hand in the cookie jar or their pants down the prosecutors like to make them do the "perp walk" after being accused on the way to the holding cell. Celebrities with their shenanigans end up down at the city jail getting lined up against the wall for a booking police shot. But what about a lineup?

Six Areas To Watch Out For With A Possible Government Shutdown - 07/15/11 10:41 AM
The last fit and start toying with the idea of a Federal government shutdown was in April with getting the funding covered through the current fiscal year. Well it seems heading toward August 2nd, our Bozo's, I mean lawmakers, are playing with fire again, this time threatening to not fix the raising of the debt ceiling that is at issue. If not raised, HOW will they pay the bills for the military, social security, medicare, medicaid, interest on the governement bonds, etc.?
It will impact housing if we go into a stall or a formal government shutdown.

Your Family Is A Cast Of Characters - 07/14/11 07:23 PM
I think our families in life are made up of our natural families of brothers and sisters, parents, children, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, spouses, partners, or significant others. Add to that the friends we "choose" which is the family we didn't get naturally and that is truly our family. But
Your Family Is A Cast Of Characters.
And this is a good thing cause variety is the spice of life.

Are You In The Zone With Your Eyeball To Eyeball Meetings? - 07/13/11 06:39 PM
Social media and smartphones and the sheer technology interruptions in our life with people is starting to come full circle now with us thinking about common sense rules with etiquette.
Are You In The Zone With Your Eyeball To Eyeball Meetings?
It is so rude to take phone calls when at lunch with clients or text during meetings or divert sole attention to the person eyeball to eyeball with you.
Also if you are emailing back and forth with someone stick with that.
Multi tasking can be VERY bad as far as respect and concentration with THE ONE YOU'RE WITH.

Four Ways To Spark Inspiration In Yourself - 07/12/11 11:32 AM

Four Ways To Spark Inspiration In Yourself
Many long lists for what can inspire you at a detailed level exist in books and on the Internet that you can research and find something that you are in tune in with. But I think they fall into four broad categories and I will give some examples in each

Being Content No Matter What Is The Way To Go - 07/10/11 12:55 PM
I have observed people practicing inner peace and I am convinced it is precious.
Being Content No Matter What Is The Way To Go.
Through our good times, through our difficult times, through people praising us, people criticizing or abusing us. I am not saying being a doormat to anything or have no ambition. Just know where you are with any situation, or emotion, or something inflicted or hurled at you, you can handle it right where you are. It is not turning your emotions off to a situation. But turning some kind of internal switch to a permanent ON position … (27 comments)

Don't Be Surprised With Those First Few Buyers' Offers - 07/09/11 03:16 PM
With working with Sellers to set the initial asking price for the sale of the home oftentimes they want to overprice their home based on what they "think" the neighbors sold theirs for, to recoup added amenities or latest home improvements, or they need that figure. But for the agent,
Don't Be Surprised With Those First Few Buyers' Offers

It's The Jobs Stupid - 07/08/11 02:09 PM
Do real estate agents ever irritate you? I'm one and some of them sometime irritate me.
Particularly with that incessant this is a good time to buy houses theme. THAT statement is so much a "depends" statement not a blanket statement. Sometimes renting is a good idea, sometimes staying put is a good idea, and sometimes you CAN'T buy a house. President Clinton in his campaign the first time said it's the economy stupid.
Now to those REALTORS that irritate me

Getting Out Of Your Head With Helping In Life - 07/06/11 11:58 AM
Many people have good intentions with their helping ideas. Helping people buy and sell homes, helping a friend with a sick cat, helping clean up litter along the roadway, helping feed the homeless or working stocking shelves at a food pantry. But where the rubber meets the road is
Getting Out Of Your Head With Helping In Life.
Helping people in all sorts of manners takes getting out of your head with the thought and getting to the action stage. Call someone, email someone, walk out the door and volunteer. In essence,

Today's Gee Whiz Thing Is In Tomorrow's Garbage Can - 07/05/11 12:42 PM
I have naturally never had an inclination to be a joiner of ANYTHING let alone be the first to jump on many new things as a bandwagon. It comes from me having perspective on so many things are a trend that just becomes a fad. Fads are good and they run their course. I had someone tell me that EVERYTHING is a fad really as change keeps taking place. I guess a true fad may be very short lived and then disappear. So keep in mind

A Tribute To The 4th Of July And A Mid Year Resolution - 07/03/11 10:39 PM
I remember the first time at the Lincoln Memorial as a ten year old and seeing those words on the wall.
The Thursday, November 19th, 1863 Lincoln's GETTYSBURG ADDRESS dedicating the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg, PA.
Great thoughts less than 100 years past 1776 that LIBERTY was for all.
A mid year resolution thought going with Lincoln's austere thoughts is get to the point with your writing and speaking. Less is definitely more when formulating your thoughts.
Just look how short and powerful Lincoln's address was.
Put the words together in your head THEN speak or write them. Powerful stuff this … (17 comments)

How Are You Treating People EVERY Day? - 07/03/11 01:02 PM
With the competitive world in so many areas of business and even sports and even jockeying around in relationships to have "more our way" to get our needs and desires met, we often take the focus off how we are treating others. That Golden Rule of treating others the way we would like to be treated or the Platinum Rule version how THEY want to be treated is so often overlooked.
It really is not about WINNING AND LOSING with other people but stepping back and think how did we treat them today?
Well if not so nice, whose fault … (11 comments)

Two Thoughts On Friends From A TV Show - 07/02/11 10:35 AM
In my days of writing in a non real estate related vein I think I should give my own impressions of the occasional TV show that I watched and liked or more often the many more new release movies I see. I see movies a lot cause I get bored easily and they are a quick diversion for me.
I saw a repeat the other night of an ABC new drama called Body Of Proof starring China Beach's and Desperate Housewives lead actress, 55 year old Dana Delaney. She's good. Plays a career change woman from neurosurgeon to Medical Examiner working … (10 comments)
