Friday's Did You Know? Snohomish River Basin
By Brian Perry, Eastside Realtor
This time of the year, one of my favorite things to do is watch the Salmon returning home.  In honor of the season and the magnificent salmon, this Friday's Did You Know is about the Eastsides Snoqualmie River, part of the Snohomish River basin.  Here are some facts that you may find interesting:
Did you know?

Monday's Inspiration -- Resolve - 09/24/07 11:22 AM
"There is no chance, no destiny, no fate that can circumvent, or hinder, or control, the firm resolve of a determined soul."                                          Ella Wheeler Wilcox
For about the last 20 years or so, I have displayed a series of 6 quotes that have hung in my various offices.  I refer to these quotes as my 6 friends.   I love to occasionally visit my friends.  They always welcome me and help give me that little shot of inspiration that they know I need.
Here's the first of those friends that I'd … (3 comments)

Monday's Inspiration -- God Bless America! - 09/17/07 12:34 PM
"It is in the quiet crucible of your personal, private sufferings that your noblest dreams are born, and God's greatest gifts are given for compensation for what you've been through."
These were the words shared with us by Wintley Phipps at Brian Buffini's Mastermind Summit, that I attended in August.  One of the songs he shared with us at the event was God Bless America.  I found the performance on you-tube and thought I would share it with you.

The Ten Principles of Value - 09/12/07 08:38 AM
Ten Principles of Value
While many property owners could probably make a fair guess as to the value of their property, they would still be unable to identify all or most of the factors that contribute to that value.  The knowledge of precisely what those factors are how they influence value is part of what lends credence to a professional estimate of market value.
The basic value principles are interrelated and their relative importance will vary depending up on particular local conditions.  When analyzing a property to determine market value, it is important to consider it in light of all the following principles.

Monday's Inspiration -- Maui, Aloha Oe - 09/10/07 10:44 PM
May you have just enough clouds in your life to create a spectacular sunset.....
I love our visits to Maui.  Val and I have been coming to Maui for over 15 years now.  Our son Jay, moved to Maui 7 years ago.  We do incredible things every time we visit, thanks to our special "tour guide".
Whenever I leave Maui, I leave with a compelling goal.....To return.
But now, we're leaving.
Aloha oe
Fairwell to thee, Maui.  Until we meet again.

Friday's Did You Know? - Holy COW! - 09/08/07 02:17 AM
Friday's Did You Know? - Holy COW!
Did you know that once upon a time, in the small eastside town of Carnation lived a cow.  Her name was Segis Pietertje Prospect or more affectionately known as Possum Sweetheart.  Possum was no ordinary cow.... no way.  An ordinary cow only produces 4,000 pounds of milk in a year.  In 1920 Possum Sweetheart broke the worlds record for most milk produced in a year.  She pumped 37,361 pounds!  HOLY COW!
Poor old Possum died in 1925.  A monument was erected in her honor at the entrance of Carnation farms.

Photos from the Polipoli Springs State Park fire -- Maui 2007 - 09/06/07 10:08 AM
Photos from the Polipoli State Park fire-- Maui 2007By Greg Perry, Kirkland Washington Realtor
We've enjoyed and hiked in Maui's Polipoli State Park several times in our island visits.  Located at about the 6700 ft level, Polipoli was amazing.  Huge redwood trees, eucalyptus grooves, native rhododendron plants and expansive stands of pine trees created a surreal forest environment that you would expect on the California coast, not a tropical pacific island.
In January 2007, over 2300 acres burned in Polipoli area of Maui.  Polipoli just opened again for the first time since the fire.  Forestry crews have been cleaning the area up for … (2 comments)

Monday's Inspiration. Sunrise - 09/03/07 12:27 PM
By Greg Perry, Kirkland Realtor
Monday's inspiration. Sunrise
"The grand show is eternal.  It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising.  Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls."                                                    John Muir
When we stay on Maui, I"m almost always up to witness the sunrise.  Here's a photo take from our room of the morning sun kissing the palm trees with … (5 comments)

Our 2007 Indiana Jones Maui Jungle Hike - 09/02/07 04:31 PM
Our 2007 Indiana Jones Maui Jungle Hike
Every time we visit Maui, we go on a jungle hike.  The Grandkids like to call it our "Indiana Jones" hike.  We've done some great hikes over the years.  One year we hiked up 9 pools--- swimming pools, climbing ropes and traversing muddy ravine slopes by clinging to fallen bamboo.  Another year we did a hike called 14 crossings in which the trail crossed a river 14 times to lead to a beautiful mountain waterfall into a pool.
This year, we went into the North Maui mountains starting from the Iao Valley State Park.  … (0 comments)

Friday's Did You Know? Columbia Winery - 09/01/07 12:22 PM
Friday's Did You Know? Columbia Winery.
Did you know that Woodinvilles Columbia winery is a transplant from Seattle? The winery was started in the Seattle neighborhood of Laurelhurst by a group of ten friends.  In 1976 the winery moved to Redmond where production reached 9,000 gallons.  From Redmond, the winery moved to Bellevue so they could expand facilities as they were cranking out 30,000 cases.  In 1998 Columbia winery moved to its current home in Woodinville and have an average annual production of 170,000 cases.  Columbia winery, its been all over Seattle's Eastside, and not just in our glasses!
