Even the smallest amount of antifreeze can be fatal.  Antifreeze is a necessity for our vehicles to operate properly in the cold weather, but unfortunately is very deadly to cats and dogs. Often antifreeze is spilled on the ground or leaks from vehicles. Although it is usually neon green and looks like it would be unappealing to anyone, it actually has a very sweet flavor that attracts animals. Often cats will walk through a puddle and then lick it off their paws. A few tablespoons are enough to kill a medium-sized dog.

Everyone knows that one of the best ways to remove ice from steps is to use rock salt.  But what do you do when you don't have any rock salt or no money to purchase any and need a quick fix?  I wouldn't advise emptying the litter box, but New Cat Liter will do the trick. Sprinkle it on the icy steps and you will easily be able to walk down the steps and protect yourself from falling on slippery ice.
