TGIF!  And it's the last day to get $8000 for some folks - I have not heard of any extension to the tax credit - but be advised that it is extended for some military folks.  Below are some commentaries as to what the rates are doing and information on yet another hard working non profit agency here in the Portland area.  Have a great weekend; feel free to contact me for assistance.

Interest rates jumped overnight and opened this morning higher with prices of mortgages down along with treasuries. At 8:30 March durable goods orders were much lower than expected on the overall at -1.3% against +0.4%, when auto sales are withdrawn orders jumped 2.8% against forecasts of an increase of 0.6%. Hey there - what a roller coaster for rates this week - fortunately they are down a bit today - we'll see what happens as time goes on.  Below are various commentaries on what the rates are doing.   Also check out the info on the Spotlight of the week:  Community Housing Resource Center.  Although based in Vancouver WA they are eager to serve folks in the Portland area.  I know some of the folks over there and I can tell you they really work hard!

Bond Yields Push 30-Year Mortgage Rates to Highest Level in Eight Months April 8, 2010
McLean, VA - Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE) today released the results of its Primary Mortgage Market Survey® (PMMS®) in which the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 5.21 percent for the week ending April 8, 2010, up from last week when it averaged 5.08 percent.  Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 4.87 percent.  This is the highest the 30-year FRM has been since the week ending August 13, 2009 when it averaged 5.29 percent.

Mtg rate update, Weekly Spotlight: Open Door - 04/02/10 12:38 PM
Below are commentaries on the mtg rates.  The jobs report show 162,000 jobs were created in March - perhaps making that the biggest one month increase in 3 years.  There is no more support on the Feds buying Mortgage backed Securities.  Rates are still really good right now but I assume that we can expect to see rates gradually get higher over time.  Looks like a bumpy ride is in store for us!
