Speechless Sunday along the Portsmouth Skyline - 01/29/12 02:15 PM

This photo was taken in Portsmouth, Englandalong the beautiful skyline. This picture is of the Spinnaker Tower which looks a lot like the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. This was opened in October of 1995 making it one of the newest buildings against the Portsmouth Harbor.
Portsmouth is a historic English Village about an hour outside of London. It has a rich naval history. There are many things to see and do in this town as well as having the Portsmouth Football Club there if you are interested in English Football (soccer.)

Although; Katy, Texas is a small town, there are many choices on where one can get things. There are a couple of wonderful eye care places here that have wonderful customer service. There are some that are not so good. We have hunted around and found a couple. One that is great and I will write a blog later about does not take my new eye insurance so I was so sad to leave them.
My husband and I have found a wonderful place called Heritage Park Vision. They have great customer service! My husband had … (3 comments)

Wordless Wednesday In Washington DC on the Mall - 01/25/12 02:15 PM

These photos were taken in Washington, D.C. along the National Mall. It is such a dreary rainy ugly day in Katy, Texas; that I had to think of a perfect sun-filled day I spent at the Washington Mall on the last day of the year in 2011.
If I could bottle that day and sell it I would be retire but not from Active Rain. On top of everything I got to have lunch at one of my favorite places in the world to eat; yes Ben’s Chili Bowl. I found … (12 comments)

Speechless Sunday at the Korean War Memorial - 01/22/12 01:37 PM

These photos were taken in Washington, D.C. at The Korean War Memorial. This memorial is a tribute to all who fought in the Korean conflict. I am posting this today for two reasons, one my father fought in the Korean War and was one of the wounded and my eldest son is Seoul today; I hope I can borrow some of his pictures. He told me the high has been 21 degrees Fahrenheit (too cold for me).
The figures at this Memorial represent soldiers on patrol. Each figure is between 7 feet 6 inches and 7 feet … (6 comments)

The 1st 2012 Latin Ladies Brunch - 01/21/12 04:34 PM

Tuesday, January 17th was the first monthly gathering of 2012 for the Grand Lakes Latin Ladies club. We met at Miriam Grajeda’s home everyone brought a dish or appetizer to share. Miriam made a wonderful Chicken cream soup with bacon and chives; she also made a special dish from Guatemala with shredded pork by hand with carrots and little pepper it was delicious.
I had never been to Miriam’s house; she had many collections of teapots and crystal and blue dishes. I like to see what interests different people and how they decorate their homes. This … (9 comments)

Wordless Wednesday at the Royal Air Force Musuem - 01/18/12 12:57 PM

This photo was taken in London, England at the Royal Air Force Museum. This is a very interesting museum a bit out of the way but definitely a must see. There are many different kinds of planes. I learned a great deal about the role Poland played in World War II that really was not talked about too much because of politics at the time.
I did get my “ahaha” moment on the trip at this museum. There were 2 little boys about 6 or 7 looking at the pictures of the twin towers … (8 comments)

Beware of Shopping at Tommy Bahama's Outlets - 01/17/12 10:25 AM

I bought my husband a watch from Tommy Bahamas Outlet in Katy Mills Mall for Christmas as he desperately needed one. I asked the salesperson if I could return if he did not like and he said no because they only do exchanges I said ok. My husband wore the watch for 2 weeks and it stopped working. So he took it back to Tommy Bahamas and told them the story. They said they could exchange it oh and did I mention the only watch they had was $300 more than I paid. My husband took it to … (11 comments)

Speechless Sunday along the Seine - 01/15/12 05:32 PM

These photos were taken in Paris, France a couple of years ago. The sky was so beautiful we had been in France for 9 days; actually this was the most beautiful evening and it was the 10th night we were not supposed to be there. We actually had boarded the plane. What happened? My husband lost his passport from the pre-boarding passport control to the plane. We tore the plane out every one around us was assisting in finding the lost passport but alas no passport. We had to deplane and we were … (13 comments)

Wordless Wednesday in Australia - 01/11/12 03:58 PM

This photo was taken in Sydney, Australia.   This is the back side of the famous Opera House. The other building you see is the Hyatt Hotel which has great views of the Opera house. The street is just past the Hyatt with a wonderful view of downtown Sydney. I decided to post this to remind myself to get back to a friend of mine whose son found me on Facebook this summer. I did not get the message until late December. We sent a couple of e-mails. He has lived in Sydney since I saw … (8 comments)

The January 2012 Flooding in Katy, Texas - 01/09/12 03:37 PM

This morning I woke up to a very hard rain. I got up to the smell of coffee my hubby was brewing. It is my day off with lots to do so I got up. The rain kept getting harder and harder. I told my husband why don't you wait until it subsides. I am so glad I did; it starting raining almost as hard as when IKE hit us, with nickel size hail the sky was as dark as night! I told my eldest to get up and pull his car in as the water was … (13 comments)

These photos were taken in Washington, D.C. at The Jefferson Memorial. This memorial is a tribute to our 3rd President.
This Memorial is an example of neoclassical architecture that was modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, Italy. Russell Pope designed the memorial and he was commissioned to do several other building in our Nation’s Capitol. The actual building went to John McShain from Philadelphia.

Wordless Wednesday on Alcatraz Island - 01/04/12 08:34 AM

This photo was taken on a Harbor Cruise on San Francisco Bay in California. Alcatraz Island to me is one of the most intriguing places in the United States. Many years ago my family and I took a tour of Alcatraz. We could not have had better ambience it was cold, foggy, rainy and getting dark as it was the last tour of the day. My boys were little and just clung to me. I highly suggest visiting if you are in the area book early as the tours do book up fast!
I am interested in … (9 comments)

Speechless Sunday Happy New Year - 01/01/12 11:23 AM

This photo was taken in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Bellagio Hotel Lobby. I love walking through the Bellagio it is so beautiful. We were there on the 4th of July so the Bald Eagle the Symbol of America is so appropriate.
Somebody in Active Rain wrote about the American Eagle and how it came dangerously close to not being the American Symbol. .
Some people say that Benjamin Franklin opposed the Bald Eagle as the symbol for the United States others state that he just did want the organization that was heading that campaign to … (11 comments)
