speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday Photos London - 06/03/12 12:58 AM

I think London photos are appropriate today’s Speechless Sunday Photos with the celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee which is honoring her 60th year on the throne. I have seen  some of the celebrations on the television. I admire her greatly. The longest reigning monarch has been Queen Victoria with 61 years on the throne until her death. I think the current Queen will undoubtedly beat that record. London will be in all her glory this summer with Jubilee celebrations and The Olympics there this summer.

Spring is in the air! The beauty of the season is all around us! I woke up early to an absolutely gorgeous morning here in Katy, Texas. I made coffee, checked on a few things on the computer. speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday at some of my favorite places - 03/25/12 04:17 AM

These pictures are some of my favorite places. The 1st one is the Alamo and it is in the great city of San Antonio, Texas. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many places but of all my favorite places there is none like my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. I think most of us have special feelings about our hometown.
The next one is of The National Monument in Washington DC how can you not be proud of our nation’s Capital.
The rest of some of my … (12 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday in Ancient Rome - 02/26/12 04:05 AM

These pictures were taken in and around ancient Rome. There are some ruins close to the Coliseum in Ancient Rome; known as the Roman Forum that are so neat to wander through. We spent a couple of hours walking through them marveling at the architecture. What most amazed us is how big these structures are and how tall and they had no machinery like we do now days. I think this is the biggest thing.
The final picture is of the Tiber River which was really low when we went. We had gone to a little … (9 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday at Versailles - 02/19/12 02:56 AM

These photos were taken at Versailles Palace in the Ile-De-France region of France. This is a beautiful little French town with great restaurants, bakery and the beautiful Versailles Palace.
The Palace is amazing the grounds are gorgeous although I prefer the Gardens in Giverny at Claude Monet’s home. The opulence in the Palace is amazing they have rooms decorated in different colors and hues; there is a yellow room, a pink room, a magenta room, a silver grey room, purple room, a red room and so on. It is definitely an all day event. I … (6 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday with Claude Monet's Gardens - 02/12/12 06:33 AM

In keeping with the Valentine’s Theme, I decided to post some pictures of the beautiful gardens at Claude Monet’s home in Giverny, France. These gardens have some of the most beautiful flowers and trees I have seen anywhere. There is also the infamous Lily Pond which Monet painted in several different lights, seasons and many of his masterpieces of this collection are in L’Orangie Museum in Paris, France in the Gardens of the Tuilleries.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday in Falmouth, Jamaica - 02/05/12 05:58 AM

These photos were taken in Falmouth, Jamaica. This town has wonderful Georgian Architecture. Falmouth is located in Trelawny Parish. It was founded in 1769 by Thomas Reid. One of the interesting facts about Falmouth is that it had piped water before New York City did.
Royal Caribbean has put millions of dollars to renovate this port city in the Northern part of Jamaica. They wanted this port to be able to handle their new line of cruise ships called the Oasis Class and in particular their new ship the Oasis of the Sea.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday at the Jefferson Memorial - 01/08/12 06:38 AM

These photos were taken in Washington, D.C. at The Jefferson Memorial. This memorial is a tribute to our 3rd President.
This Memorial is an example of neoclassical architecture that was modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, Italy. Russell Pope designed the memorial and he was commissioned to do several other building in our Nation’s Capitol. The actual building went to John McShain from Philadelphia.
This building and all the memorials are managed by the National Park Service. There were many Park Rangers around that day and they were all so nice … (12 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday Happy New Year - 01/01/12 03:23 AM

This photo was taken in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Bellagio Hotel Lobby. I love walking through the Bellagio it is so beautiful. We were there on the 4th of July so the Bald Eagle the Symbol of America is so appropriate.
Somebody in Active Rain wrote about the American Eagle and how it came dangerously close to not being the American Symbol. .
Some people say that Benjamin Franklin opposed the Bald Eagle as the symbol for the United States others state that he just did want the organization that was heading that campaign to … (12 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday Christmas Day 2011 in Washington DC - 12/25/11 06:24 AM

Merry Christmas to all my friends at Active Rain. Here is a beautiful shot of the National Christmas Tree in Washington DC. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there walking around snapping pictures! That was an early Christmas present to myself and my oldest son Peter who met me there!
I thought that the National Christmas Tree was very small compared to the many ones I had seen before. It is because the other tree snapped in a windstorm in February. The 2011 tree was transplanted from a New Jersey nursery in March 2011. It is a Colorado Blue Spruce.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday at the White House - 12/18/11 06:59 AM

On my recent trip to Washington, D.C.; I was tromping around taking pictures of our nation’s Capitol all dressed for Holidays. Here is the White House in its Holiday finest!
The White House located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the official residence of The President of the United States of America. Every President since John Adams has lived here.
I did not get to go inside! Every year the White House has a different theme for the Holidays this year’s theme is “Shine, Give and Share” which allows us to honor our troops! Please … (10 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday along the Thames - 12/11/11 07:34 AM

This photo was taken in London, England walking around the Thames. This is another shot one of the world’s most recognizable skylines. The British Parliament Buildings and the World Famous Big Ben are absolutely stunning. I always have to go take a walk down the Thames when in London to soak up this spectacular sight. I have more photos than you can shake a stick with.
I feel the people living in London are so lucky with such a stunning view walking along the Thames there are so many different views such as the London Eye, St … (10 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday with Claude Monet's Water Lilies in Brilliant Fall Colors - 10/30/11 07:14 AM

This is another one of Claude Monet’s Water Lilies paintings. I thought I would post this one today as to me it has many of the beautiful colors of autumn. Claude Monet is one of the most important painters of the impressionist period.  One of his favorite subjects was his Water Lilies series at his beloved home in Giverny.
This painting is in the Musee D L’Orangerie in Paris, France. The museum is located in the Tuileries Park which is located at the Bank of the Seine River close to the Place de la Concorde. Claude Monet specifically … (12 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday in Salzburg Austria - 10/16/11 08:28 AM

This photo was taken in Salzburg, Austria. The place is called Leopoldskon Castle. If the castle looks familiar to, you have probably seen the movie the “Sound of Music” (one of my all time favorites). The scenes in the movies that were shot there were all the lake shots; the most famous one being when Maria fell into the lake.
Leopoldskon Castle is not open to the public but the grounds themselves are.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday from Staten Island Ferry - 09/25/11 08:41 AM

This photo was taken from the Staten Island Ferry leaving from the Water street terminal in downtown New York City. My son and I went there the week before hurricane Irene struck the East coast. I tried several different searches to see what Lighthouse this was and to no avail. If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. I just love lighthouses. This lighthouse is located on Staten Island
