pa: Tending to Your Yard - Real Estate Learnings - 08/01/11 03:31 PM
Do you take pride in what you do? If so, how do others see it? What do they notice? I find it important to do my job in real estate very well. Somehow I believe my clients, my coworkers, and my family will notice this.
One way, the pride I take in what I do is seen, is in my yard. I like a deep green, lush grass. It looks great when freshly mowed and is free of weeds. My beds filled with shrubs and flowers are edged, filled with mulch and add color and vibrancy.
In order to achieve the look … (14 comments)

pa: Lancaster Living in Lititz, PA - 07/31/11 08:25 AM

Are you looking for a remarkable living experience? The Lancaster Living experience is exemplified by the history, character and small town feel in Lititz, PA. This is a place to live with history beginning with its birth in 1776. It was begun by the Moravians and was an experiment in utopia, allowing only folks who would sign a pledge to reside in the town. It, however, changed with the times and is a thriving town, open to all who want to call it home.
Enjoy eating in many fine dining establishments, including the General Sutter Inn. Warwick School District offers … (5 comments)

pa: Bridges of Lancaster County - Zook's Mill Covered Bridge - 07/30/11 02:55 PM

One cannot help but find the covered bridges of Lancaster County, PA part of the tranquil experience in Lancaster Living. There are 29 covered bridges in the county. This makes it the number one county in Pennsylvania for covered bridges and second in the nation to Parkes County, Indiana. Many of these bridges are passable by car, but limited to one lane.
This is Zook's Mill Covered Bridge, located within two miles of my home. It is typical of most of the covered bridges in Lancaster county. It is made of the Burch Arch Truss design and can be seen … (21 comments)

pa: Why don't you invest in real estate? - 05/21/11 03:17 PM
Investing in Real Estate
Why don't more realtors invest in real estate? I think it is the best investment I have ever made and I am continually looking for more properties to buy.
Real Estate has several streams of return. One is the pay down of the mortgage. Second is the cash flow, the actual profit made each and every month rent is paid. Third is the tax savings benefits and fourth is appreciation. Now we have not seen appreciation for several years, but we will again the future.
As a realtor you have access to information and understand value. Opportunities … (11 comments)

pa: Reflections on Growing Older - 05/20/11 02:11 PM
Growing older in Lancaster, PA is frought with challenges. The aging process unrelentlessly flows down the stream of life and turning 50 has somehow poignantly drew this to my attention. I have more astutely seen my mortality and am seeking to reflect on these feelings I am experiencing.
I recently posted on my facebook account and many of my friends offered words of encouragement and positive insights. The value of experience and wisdom is more pronounced and creates a deep sense of satisfaction was a theme. The stressing of one's mindset and how this season of life is viewed was another … (12 comments)

pa: A Staged Stooge - 05/02/11 03:59 PM
Can any stooge stage a home or does it take more than a sap? I learned it definitely takes more than a stooge to stage a home. I recently listed 26 Harvard Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603. This cottage style home definitely had vintage written all over it when I went on my first appointment. The large living room had red wool carpet which the owners believed was over 30 years old.
I suggested to the owners that a home stager would be a great idea. I contracted the services of Dawnell and Diane of Shape Up Your Space. They responded in … (9 comments)

Living Lancaster, PA experience is filled with a background, a tapestry of previous experiences, What does your tapestry tell you? Pictured on the right is the congregation in which I grew up.
This rural Iowa upbringing informs my present living Lancaster, PA. I learned the value of hard work, strong moral and ethical living, and an attitude of service. Living Lancaster, PA reminds me how beautiful my tapestry is.
Some folks have a life that may be filled with pain. Some share my positive past experiences. However, we all have a past and what we make of it, how we incorporate … (11 comments)

pa: Giving Thanks - One Day at a Time - 11/29/10 03:41 PM
I am thankful for good health care

My daughter, Megan, has a hurting hand. You will notice the swollen, discolored hand which is anything but normal. She injured her hand in the final field hockey game. Another stick hit her directly on the knuckle and this is the end result.
The x-ray did not show any noticeable break, but the doctor believed it must be cracked or chipped. She learned tonight that she will now need to have an MRI in the near future.
With this in mind, I realized how fortunate I and my family are to have good, quality … (16 comments)

pa: Giving Thanks One Day at a Time - Thanks for Friends - 11/23/10 02:21 PM
Thank God for Good Friends

This morning I met my friend Paul for breakfast. Paul and I developed our friendship by working at the same brokerage for about a year. Paul recently began his own brokerage and we do not see each other as regularly.
Paul has become a good friend. He and I share commonalities in values, faith, ethical views on representing clients and family. I was reminded how much my life has been blessed by my friends.
I have many other friends. I have former pastoral colleagues who are very good friends. I know my life is nourished … (12 comments)

pa: Giving Thanks One Day at a Time -Day 4 - 11/08/10 01:25 PM
On Saturday evening I went for a walk. During this walk I noticed the clear, beautiful starry sky. I was amazed. The night was cold and crisp and somehow seemed to make the clarity of the sky more pronounced.
I have thought about this over the last couple of nights as the sky has been clouded with no view of the stars. I have needed to give thanks for this earth and the natural order. I am reminded of the words of the Psalmist, "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world and all who live in it."
The … (9 comments)

pa: Giving Thanks One Day At A Time - Day 2 - 11/05/10 01:00 PM
Today I give thanks for my wife. Lorie and I were married 28 years ago. She has blessed my life beyond belief. As any good relationship, she compliments me, challenges me, helps me think through things and loves me.
She sees the best of me and has experienced the worst of me. This is what makes marriage such a blessing. Thanks Lorie.

Give Thanks in All Things
Having read the challenge to write a blog post each day throughout November, I decided this was a great idea.
Today I am thankful for health and life. Earlier this year I experienced a health challenge. Due to poor genes, I am susceptible to pulmonary embelli or blood clots. I was in the hospital in late April. Today, on blood thinners for the rest of my life, I am doing quite well.
Experiencing good health, the ability to be up and about each day, is something I too often take for granted. I give thanks for … (9 comments)
