Make Small Changes to Get Big Energy Savings at Your Jersey Shore Home
A survey conducted by "Money" magazine and Lowe's found that out of 21 common projects, energy updates gave DIYers the most satisfaction, given the time and money.  Get some satisfaction this week by implementing one or two of these easy energy savers at your Jersey Shore home:
1.      Add dimmers: If every home in the U.S replaced two standard light switches with a dimmer, we could save $1.5 billion in electricity.

2.      Recycle rechargeable batteries, plastic bags and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs):  It's as easy as taking them to your … (0 comments)

Goodbye Telephone books ! Aint goin to miss ya !! - 11/25/10 06:14 PM
Ernie Phillips remembers watching black and white movies depicting barbers using thick phone books to make a small child taller in a large barbershop chair.
While that image will remain in the movies Phillips, owner of Ernie's Barber Shop in Marmora, and others will continue to use booster chairs. Good thing, too, as Verizon has announced it will no longer print residential listings, eliminating the so-called "white pages" from the New Jersey phone book.
The yellow pages and government information will still be listed in their annually printed books.
Phillips, who has been a barber for 46 years, said he won't … (8 comments)

it's not enough to be known by your friends, family and co-workers.   If your name is known by only 100 to 1000 people in your city it's not enough.  It's not necessary that they know you personally, but it is vital they know your name and associate it directly with real estate.

Did you notice?? Rates going up? - 11/23/10 06:53 PM
I noticed rates have been going up. I think there is a log jam of un processed refi's and sales and the banks are taking advance of them. I was reading that in a week or two the rates will start moving back down. But what do I know other than 3 weeks ago one of my clients locked in under 4% and now a client is looking at 5.25% ! What goes up must come down or what goes down must go up ! Peace ! Food for thought !! ~ Ian Lazarus,CRs

Number of winter rentals rises, number of renters stays the same - 11/23/10 05:24 PM
By STEVEN LEMONGELLO Press of A.C.Staff Writer | Sun, November 21, 2010
As the weather gets colder and the summer visitors pack up and leave, they leave behind hundreds of empty apartments and houses in shore towns - but while the number of "winter renters" has stayed steady, the number of available units has only grown.
"It has changed," D.J. Gluck, the broker/owner of Soleil Sotheby's International Realty in Margate, said of the market for winter rentals, "and it's changed for economic reasons."
A large number of summer rentals went unrented during the summer season, Gluck said, and now Absecon Island … (0 comments)

Atlantic City has alot riding on today's NJ Senate Bills - 11/22/10 11:55 AM
State senators will consider about a dozen bills today to reform New Jersey's casino and horse-racing industries and establish a state-run tourism district within Atlantic City.
The legislation, if passed by lawmakers, would reshape the resort's largest industry - with effects potentially rippling across the state and overseas.
Two of the bills would bring major changes in the way casinos are regulated and marketed. One would create a state-run tourism district overseen by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. The other bill would transfer most casino regulation functions to the state Division of Gaming Enforcement and loosen licensing procedures.

Author's daughter works to publish 1960 version ofAtlantic City ‘Boardwalk Empire' - 11/13/10 11:34 AM
Before HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" exposed him to the world, before Nelson Johnson's book made him a household name, there was another book about Enoch "Nucky" Johnson.
For decades, an old, unpublished, type-written manuscript was passed around by those in the know - bandied about by some of the most notable names in Atlantic City's history. At a whopping 562 pages, it exhaustively chronicles the life of Nucky Johnson, the former boss of Atlantic City, from his birth to his upbringing in Mays Landing to his methodical rise through the ranks of the Republican machine.

Atlantic City In the News ~ S&P Downgrades from stable to negative - 11/05/10 11:24 AM
A Wall Street ratings service has changed its outlook for Atlantic City's municipal debt from "stable" to "negative" to reflect the city's weaker financial position.
For now, Standard & Poor's continues to assign an "A" rating on $19.1 million in municipal bonds, noting that Atlantic City's debt burden remains low. But S&P indicated it may downgrade the rating if the city's financial problems become worse.
Atlantic City's tourism-dependent economy, below-average income levels and stagnant tax base were cited as concerns by S&P. The ratings company also said the city's budget is under strain from $9 million in property-tax appeals.
Although S&P … (0 comments)
