Urban Farming - 04/28/10 04:34 PM
I love that people are doing more and more backyard "farming" At book club last night, one of the gals told me that the neighborhood had recently installed a beehive with 2000 bees. Pretty cool.
On Thursday, April 29th Novella Carpenter, author of "Farm City, the education of an Urban Farmer will be discussing her book at the Arlington Central Library Auditiorium at 7:00 PM. Sounds like an interesting evening. Her book was on Oprah's and New York Times best book list.

Arlington Va. is Green-literally - 04/28/10 08:04 AM
When I first moved to Virginia from NY the first thing I was struck by was the beautiful flowers here. I had never experienced a spring with Cherry blossoms and a summer with Crape Myrtles (I love those). Arlington just awarded Certificates and plaques to 13 notable trees. Here's the list:
Certificate Winners:
Silver Maple:  6528 27th Street N. Pignut Hickory: 2001 N Glebe Road. Persimmon: 109 South Lexington Street. Silver Dollar: 1821 South George Mason Drive. Southern Magnolia: 933 N Livingston Street. Earth Day Tips-From your Green Realtor - 04/22/10 07:27 AM
I recently completed the National Association of Realtors course and received my Green designation. It is something near and dear to my heart and because I interact with so many people it gives me the opportunity to share the knowledge I have gained and to continue working to leave a livable planet for our children and thiers. Where I work in Arlington, Va we are fortunate to have a county/city government that is very proactive in reducing the footprint of the government. They set a great example for the rest of us.
I read recently that although most people are aware … (1 comments)

Tax Credit deadline clarification - 04/22/10 07:10 AM
The deadline is almost here for the $8000.00 tax credit. Even in our expensive area there are plenty of homes for sale under $750,000 that would qualify for the credit. Quite af few buyers I have spoken to recently were under the mistaken impression that they need to have settled on their home by the end of April to qualify. I want to reiterate that they simply need a contract in place. So, get out there and buy a house, there is still time. Call me. I can help. 571-228-5656

Tales of two settlements - 04/21/10 06:12 PM
So, I had two settlements last week. Yay! I was the buyer agent on both. One in Alexandria, Va and one in Arlington, Va.
Like all transactions these days there were issues that had to be resolved right up to the day of settlement. Both agents were great to work with and everything was professionally handled (so nice when this happens).
One settlement was completed....business as usual with a long time agent. It wasn't until the day of the second settlement that I realized that, for this agent, it may have been their first transaction. She had handled everything professionally up to this point,  so..... what … (2 comments)

Help for allergies - 04/13/10 09:11 AM
The pollen season is in full swing here in the Washington, DC and Arlington, Va. area. If you are a realtor it's hard to get excited about showing homes when you're sneezing and snifflin' all the time.
I do have allergies so I thought I would share something that has helped alot. A Neti pot....yep, that's right. If you don't know what it is you may very well go ewwwww when you do a google search and check it out but it's a great thing. Definitely great for the sinuses. I will not go into details here since this is not … (4 comments)

This is why I do this - 04/12/10 03:16 PM
These are two testimonials/emails from a buyer and a seller. It warms the heart when you help people fulfill their dreams:

"Laura and I searched houses for a year. Jane was our third realtor in our search. We wish we went to her first. As first time home buyers Jane was very patient and professional. She thoroughly explained everything and never missed a detail. She would go out of her way to make sure our needs were met. Laura and I could not be happier with our new house in the neighborhood we wanted and at the right price and … (2 comments)
