Largely unscathed-Surviving Irene - 08/29/11 12:48 PM
Here in Arlington, Va we survived hurricane Irene largely unscathed. That is not to make light of the many power outages in Prince Georges or the homes that were crushed by fallen trees. We also experienced several deaths outside our immediate area related to the storms.
Overall in my area it was not as bad as it could of been. I lost cable/internet for about 12 hours, neighbors lost tree limbs but I did not see any down trees in the immediate area. Mark Center Brac location project and traffic improvements-Maybe a good time to look at an investment - 08/17/11 09:58 AM
The new Mark Center in Northern Alexandria will house 6400 newly relocated workers in Northern Virginia including northern Alexandria and South Arlington and Falls Church Some of the areas that can expect to benefit from a real estate perspective might be Skyline, Fairlington, Shirlington, Fort Barnard, Claremont, Belle Haven and more. Many folks have been concerned about the already congested traffic on 395 in this area. Quite a few steps are being taken to relieve some of this. These include:
-Ramp widening on northbound 395 exit at Seminary
-Median removal on Seminary west of 395

Ok, we're not a rural county. No sheep shearing and no first prize for the best cow but we've got plenty going on here including the awful and awfully good funnel cakes, deep fried oreos (who knew), rides and vendors. The Kennedy Center is one of the great cultural institutions in Washington DC. They have multiple theatres and restaurants and host a wide variety of plays, music, and other cultural events. Every summer on the Millennium stage (kind of in the foyer of the center) they host free shows. The one tonight looks great. A Massachusettes based group that has it's own spin on Ethiopian music. Beverages, alcoholic or otherwise can be purchased there (be warned, these won't be inexpensive but you don't have to buy them or you can rationalize maybe one because the great music is free, free, free!)

Here's a photo of a very sunny flower I saw on my walk this morning. The plants are much happier this morning. A much needed downpour yesterday. Too short though. We need a good long soaker (don't forget to water your trees).
