You don't have to be an astronaut... to see these are out of this world!

A colleague of mine recently returned from Florida, and had a relative who worked at Cape Canaveral.  She saw scheduled to be there for the most recent lift-off of the Shuttle, but that particular launch was delayed, so she couldn't witness the launch in person.

But he did give her some photographs, that we ordinary plebians, we mere mortals rarely get to see.  Here are a few, and I'll share more over the next few days.  They are some truly remarkable images.

These photos are so good, they might have been taken by Richard Weisser.

Look at how hot the flames are coming from behind the shuttle... they're not yellow hot, or white hot... they're INVISIBLE hot ... till they cool down to BLUE!   Wow.

I thought you might enjoy them.

Being a photographer myself, it is truly a treat to see some of the shots that I know I could never get (I DO have shuttle launches though..grins). The space walk is truly a beautiful shot. It puts things into perspective when you see the earth behind the astronaut and we realize just how small we are and how large the universe is...thanks for sharing!

This is amazing and I appreciate you sharing them.  However, Richard would have stamped his name on them.

Cool photo's Alan.  I like the way you have done your hair.  I see that you are still fooling around with the photoshop.

Melody Botting (echo: Melody Botting, Melody Botting)...  maybe NASA didn't allow Richard to put his name on these... don't they look like they could be his?

Susan, certainly not YOU... you are the farthest thing from a plebe, that I know...

Larry, thanks... Craig Rutman made this iteration for me.

Alan, I witnessed Apollo 13 take off from Cape Kennedy when I was 11, It is awesome to see. This was the fight that took up the moon rover so there was additional interest in the payload and getting a vehicle to the surface.

Alan, those are beautiful pictures of a truly amazing feat.

Thank you, my friend, for sharing them with us!

Now about that mere mortals and plebians remark.....Speak for yourself!!!

By the way, two of my favorites when using them in the context you did in your blog are "sheeple" and "troglodytes"

Wow, Alan, these are amazing! The third one is absolutely beautiful! Whoever took the photo must have been able to feel the heat, don't you think? I don't believe I would want to be floating ou there like that. Not something I aspire to, but glad someone else does! Thanks for these.
