A colleague of mine recently returned from Florida, and had a relative who worked at Cape Canaveral. She saw scheduled to be there for the most recent lift-off of the Shuttle, but that particular launch was delayed, so she couldn't witness the launch in person.
But he did give her some photographs, that we ordinary plebians, we mere mortals rarely get to see. Here are a few, and I'll share more over the next few days. They are some truly remarkable images.

Look at how hot the flames are coming from behind the shuttle... they're not yellow hot, or white hot... they're INVISIBLE hot ... till they cool down to BLUE! Wow.
