I love trying new things.  When they're familiar, that is. =)

riding a bike

I wasn't able to take part in the popular Growth Leader trial runs. =(  But why should that stop me from running a trial of my own on something else altogether?  This has nothing to do with a website generating leads, by the way.  I just like the way people are reporting on their experiences so I am going to do the same with this product I decided to try for my contact management, or CRM.

I plan on providing weekly updates on how it's going.  Or maybe a little more often, since I am on a 30-day free trial.  I am going to give it 100% and give it an honest-to-goodness try.  No sense in taking my 30 free days if I'm going to goof off for 25 days.

The product is EurekaWare and it is an overlay for Outlook.  For you Outlook lovers out there without a separate CRM venue that is real estate specific, this may be good news.  I happen to adore my Outlook and am sure that I only use about 2% of what it is capable of doing.  It is truly a powerful program.  So if I already have that, use it daily and know how to use it, why not try something that will just be added to that and avoid a little of the learning curve?

I've actually been looking into Top Producer and even asked buddy Janie Coffey (who loves it) to send me an invitation if they give her a month or any sort of benefit for inviting me.  But then I did a little more research and decided to try EurekaWare before taking the TP plunge.  I promise to use your invite if I sign up eventually Janie!

Please keep in mind that I am not comparing EurekaWare to Top Producer.  I have never used Top Producer but I know a few agents who swear by it.  I will, however, point out that there is a marked difference in cost.  Top Producer costs about $40/month plus extra for other bundled features and EurekaWare costs a flat $99 for the software.  Again, not comparing apples to apples as they don't have the same functionalities, but for someone like me who wants a real estate-specific contact manager with the capability to also run action plans, keep buyer and seller needs, as well as listing information for starters, I figured I should take the path of least resistance (to my bank account) first.

EurekaWare gives a 30 day free trial.  No credit card needed.  Just download the software and start using it. I downloaded it in just a couple of minutes and started Outlook after installation.  They warned me that Outlook would be a little slow the first time after installation.  They were right.  It took about 2 minutes to finish doing whatever it is computer programs do behind the scenes after we ask them to start changing things around.

I immediately went to a contact screen so I could see the difference between the new fields and the old Outlook fields.  Ooooh, there are a ton of them!  You can add a spouse, children, etc.  And the ribbons in Outlook 2007 are different too.  The new icons include action plans and more.  See the picture below.

Eureka and Outlook behaving

I am going to work on some of those action plans and report separately on that but for now it's important to note that:

  1. It was easy to install.
  2. It was quick.
  3. It didn't crash.
  4. It was FREE - to try anyway.  I will gladly pay for something that works the way I want it to.

For a complete list of features, check out the EurekaWare site.  I am impressed that it even has web lead import.  Yes, folks, you can use a bit of code on your website and any leads you get from there will automatically be converted to a contact in your Outlook.  How cool is that?!  Of course, I will test this out and report on it later. =)

If this interests you at all, feel free to download and take the journey with me.  If you prefer to wait the 30 days and see whether my laptop explodes (or maybe I do!) then read along and learn from my mistakes =)

I'm so excited that I am taking a big step to become more productive.  I can talk and talk, but when push comes to shove, you have to just do it.  I have been swamped with work and definitely need a better way of keeping up with it all.

Ohhhhh Maggie!  I love it.  Thanks so much for the info.  I love Outlook and look forward to checking this out.  One of the challenges we've had in the past was adding a spouse and their birthday.  I'm gonna check this out.

This is helpful information, Maggie. I have been using Agent Office for RE/MAX (formerly Office 2000) which I like pretty well, but am always open to something with better fucntionality.  I look forward to hearing what else you have to say about this CRM program.

Marlene - I so love my Outlook.  And we can't forget birthdays!  I'll keep you posted.

Jeff - Agent Office got high marks in all I read about it.  Apparently folks like it better than TP.  There was one particular website I found while doing my research that had a lot of useful info about the two.  AO has 2 or 3 branded versions with RE/MAX being one of them but apart from the branding it is identical to the AO without the branding.

And for people who like the fact that they can access their database online with TP and AO, I am thinking there's a way for me to do that with this too.  I'll let you know how that idea pans out.

Maggie,

Thanks for interesting info. I am suing Outlook, and maybe this would be a good idea to check. I tried TP and was not a happy camper. Just too complicated.

Jon - I hear TP has a steep learning curve and many agents don't give it the time required to learn it.  Not having to learn a totally new platform was certainly a big factor for me to try this out first.  Hopefully it will work out!

Maggie, we started using The Wise Agent a few months ago. It is how my assistant manages all our transactions. I would NEVER use TP, too steep a learning curve for me. This Eureka add on sounds great, keep us posted.

Missy - I saw a blurb about the Wise Agent somewhere as I did my research.  I'd love to hear more about it.

I actually thought of you as I wrote this as I know you enjoy and use Outlook.  I will definitely keep you posted.  I am having such fun with it so far that my reporting may be just TOO thorough!  LOL

Maggie - I tried the Eurekeware's 30 trial. I could not figure out how to get a drip e-mail campaign on it.

Robert - I haven't progressed that far yet in my trial.  I have been swamped with work!  Which is the same reason I had not seen your comment until now. Sorry.

However, I do know that drip e-mail is available via an add-on through Constant Contact at $15/month.  Here is a link to the pricing for Eurekaware.  The drip email is totally automated.  I have never used Constact Contact but am familiar with the brand as being one of the bigger ones.  I also see the need for  a subscription based email campaign due to  tracking and reporting options, which you can't do with Outlook alone.  Best of all, you can add this for a free 60-day trial and see if  it works for you before you commit.

If you do, I'd love to hear about it.  I've been too busy to add it but plan on doing it this week.

I am Real Estate specific Contact Management and CRM Broker (reseller). I am affiliated with 24 of them, including all of the ones that have been mentioned here.

. I started as a residential resale Real Estate agent in 1987. I started with Outlook, and realized it was woefully inadequate because I needed more than a glorified Rolodex if I wanted to truly stay on top of my prospects and transactions. I needed the ability to effectively and efficiently market to, and follow up with people in an organized fashion. Having a Real Estate specific CRM ("Real Estate Specialist", even though it was DOS based at the time) allowed me to transition from 10 - 20 sides a year and no assistant, to 40 - 50 sides/yr. and a part time assistant, with minimal pain, loss of time, or loss of income from training a new assistant.

I don't profess to know everything about technology in Real Estate. While the length and breadth of my knowledge of technolgy in Real Estate has grown over the years - I have always focused on automation and organization through the use of CRM. Since the DOS days I have used and followed several products, including Agent Office and Top Producer, Howard & Friends, ACT, and more. I have worked with agents and teams all over the world for over a decade to help them get better organized through the use of CRM software. More info on my background, and an abundance of success stories are on my site.

Most recently I have spent 3 - 5 hours with the CEO's of 28 Real Estate specific contact management and CRM products, to compare them across 350 features and benefits to create my Real Estate CRM Matrix. Prior to Real Estate sales, I was a computer technician and computer operations manager.

If you would like to have a conversation with me about which one is best for you, based on your aptitude, your current needs, and your future goals, please contact me.

Alexander - I should have posted a follow-up to this post already but have been super busy.  I do like what I've done with it so far.  I better use it a lot more before my trial runs out!

Thanks for the blessings.  Tenfold back at you!

Maggie - I love my outlook and have Pat Zaby's program Respond which is similar to what you are using - it lays over the top - but..... I am having trouble with syncing between machines.... I use plaxo right now.... and not all the fields will sync - watch for that if you use multiple computers

Thesa, the funny thing is that I have Respond too.  I never quite got past the installation part.  I could never figure out if it was working or not.  I need to revisit that.  I paid a pretty penny for his entire system.
