Bananas and Real Estate

“Real estate, by far, is the most screwed up industry in America”, says Glenn Kelman of Redfin.com. I agree.

There’s a lot of much needed change happening within the entire real estate industry these days, and it appears the stirring of the pot is obviously hacking some off. I’m not one who believes that the commissions being charged are too high as stated on CBS news, 60 minutes. But, I do believe that the level of service and professionalism is way too low and that there are far too many people making money for something they didn’t even do or do well.

The great thing is that it appears people are finding out that there’s more than one way to peel a banana. It’s about time.

While I don’t have much interest in the residential world of real estate and the changes happening on that end or even Redfin, I think the changes are needed and all of this may be the shakeup that’s been needed.

I hope we and other companies in the industry are making waves in the investment world of real estate. For far too long, agents have been talking about things they didn’t know anything about and investors have trusted them, all the while being screwed because they don’t know any better. I don’t try to talk to residential buyers about buying homes, because I don’t know much about it, and the difference between residential and investment real estate is significant.

The change is happening, whether we like it or not. Are we going to ignore the fact that there’s a better way to do business or are we going to embrace it and change?

I believe Land Chasers is peeling the banana a better way, and I hope we’re humble enough to see when it’s time to change the things we’re doing now. That’s called customer service.

It would be interesting to see how many deals per week his agents actually do. -Charles

Good call. I don't know much about them and am definitely not advocating anything they do, but do like that things are being challenged and changed.

Derek,

Debating issues is always good for any industry. More productive ways to do things are there somewhere, it's just a matter of discovering them and then implementing.

I'm constantly reminded of the poor serviceby agents in our region who are apparently untrained to negotiate, advertise or advise clients (this from ex-clients I talk to and agents I interact with at times).  Whether a wholesale change in format is the answer I can't agree with yet.
