Gail ~ What a terrific photo of the Yellow Billed Hornbill! How were you able to get so close and not scare this bird away? They must be a friendly bird.

Hi Terrie:  Taken at the Brevard Zoo.....so the birds are pretty accustomed to people.

Hi Barbara:  He and all his buddies were not camera shy....that's for sure.

Hi Donna:  I took it at Brevard Zoo a couple of weeks ago.  Where is Discovery Cove...oh boy, a new photo destination :-)

LOL @Eric:  Not quite outside the window, but the Zoo is only 1/2 hour away.  You might have to move to Kenya if you want him as a pet ;-)  He is a beauty!!!

Very majestic looking bird!     Has that predator gleam, just like the eagles that inhabit my world, here.

Gail, please tell us what type of camera and lens you're using.

I need to go out and get one immediately.

All of your pictures are spectacular.

Hi Jackie:  I'm told I have a thing for birds.....guess I do ;-)  Glad you enjoy the picture.

Hi Jim-Hi Maria:  I won't find him in the Wetlands....ah, the diversity in the Zoo!

Hi Li:  This bird is not particularly predatory as it is a ground forager feeding mainly on seeds, insects, spiders and scorpions....with termites and ants being their preferred food.

Hey Anne:  How's it going!!!  I can confirm his hammy nature.  I love the colors and contrasts.  Kinda looks like a stuffed toy....quite cuddly.

Good Wednesday morning Ladybird! I love the colors in this photo, and you captured it perfectly. I don't think I have ever seen one of these, at my zoo...but he is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photo today!

Hi Toula:  I thought I would throw in some color today.  Most of the wetland birds tend to blend into the environment.  Glad you like him :-)

Hi Caron:  Zoom-Zoom....LOL....but not this time, he was close enough for just 100mm focal length.

LOL @Kathy for being so politically correct.  I tend to call them all he, with a few she's rolled in.  Actually now that I think about it, this one does look more like a she....what do you think?  She looks like a stuffed animal....soft, cuddly and fluffy....fluffy is good ;-)  Glad you like it.

Hi Craig:  You are so nice....MUAH!!!  This is my new camera stuff.  Body by Canon/Rebel XSi.  While I did have the big lens on...the Canon 100-400mm, I had it all the way in at 100mm as this bird was quite close.  If you're serious about new equipment, I volunteer to share the results of my research.

Hi Mary:  There were some very exotic birds at the Brevard Zoo, but nothing like Debou's Crested African Crane.  I thought that was the most exquisite bird I had ever seen.  I was told they had one at our zoo, but it was a different crane...not nearly as spectacular.  I'm not usually a zoo person (it's a freedom issue) but to their credit, they have many animals that were injured and not able to survive outside the zoo's controlled environment.  Glad you like Fluffy, Kathy McGraw named her :-)

Hi  Jonathan:  Thanks for stopping by to look at my crazy birdie, Fluffy and I will catch you later ;-)

Hellll-o Steve:  Thank you so much, this was definitely the best of  birds winner that day ;-)

WOW Ian:  I'm grinning wider and wider with all these fabulous comments........I subscribed to your blog and look forward to studying your night/twilight post.......hey guys, check Ian out.  He's pretty new on A|R and a professional photographer.....we live to learn :-)

Thank you Hank:  I think it's terrific that so many Rainers are into photography.

LOL @Hannah:  He won't bite you....now if you were a termite or a scorpion....hmmmm

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing shot! This guy is gorgeous! Look at that purple on his neck! (think it's a hickey?) I checked on you this morning, and there was nothing new yet, Glad I came back! Sorry it took so long, tho. Which wetlands did you spot him in? (I'm making a list for when I come out to see you ;)

OK, the zoo!

Gail,

It looks as though Mr. Yellow Billed Hornbill was just waiting for you to stop by and take his picture.  Such a pretty bird.

Hi Gail, Donna again.

Discovery Cove is a part of SeaWorld in Orlando and in addition to swimming with the dolphins, they have an aviary that you can walk through. IT IS AMAZING! There are tons of exotic birds that will come and sit on your arm, shoulder and even head if you've got food, which by the way, they provide. They've also got peacocks and the smallest deer I've ever seen. It's a little pricey to spend a day there but it includes food for the day, which is quite good, and the use of all the wet suit gear.

To get to aviary you swim in the lazy river that encircles it. In the bay where the river ends, or begins depending on where you enter, hundreds of sting ray swim past, around and against you as you swim. It's SO cool! A funny thing to do is to just float with your head above water and you can hear the squeals of people through their snorkels when a sting ray brushes up against them. It's really funny.

To be perfectly honest, the dolphin swim was cool and so was swimming with the sting rays but if I were to go back it would be because of the fantastic aviary.

And make sure you bring a camera. You will defiantly fill it up!

LOL @Debi:  I see you figured out the shot was taken at the ZOO ;-)  When can I expect you so I can stock up on vino....LOL  Gosh...if FeatherHead comes too, I'll have to buy the vineyard hahahaha

Hi Mary:  Indeed I am very pleased with the camera and lens both.  So much so that I have my eye on another lens.  "will work for camera equipment"....my new slogan....LOL

Hi Shirley:  I thought she was magnificent as well...and such an accommodating subject.  Glad you enjoy this picture, thanks!

Thanks Don:  She definitely wasn't the slightest bit bothered by me or the camera.  I was pretty close with the lens in at 100mm.  Thanks for stopping by :-)

Hi Donna again.....thank you so much for giving me all this information.  I told my husband and he knew all about it.......he watches waaay more TV than I do.  Discovery Cove sounds like a great way to spend a day.  Thanks again, I'll go online to learn more :-)

Thanks Tammy:  I wonder if she'll remember me when I go back...which will be soon!  Glad you like this pic.
