http://ezureick.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/get-your-girl-scout-cookies/

They come around in those uniforms and you know it is that time of year again, Girl Scout Cookie time.  I have very few vices in life but cookies, well that hits me right where it hurts, on the hips thighs, stomach.  So I got on my scales after savoring the last cookie in the box and to no surprise, a weight gain.  It's the Girl Scouts fault having those tempting cookies.  I use to be a Girl Scout so I had to buy, it was patriotic.  Yes, I could have contributed a donation but that would have left me without those great cookies.  It simply is the Girl Scouts fault.

I took some time off this last week to enjoy the spring and rebuilt some energy.  I did not get out my marketing pieces, network, stir up some business.  New opportunity was not sought or gained.  I blame it on the spring season.  It tempted me with gorgeous weather and a goof off feeling so I just had to cave to the moment and quit feeding the pipeline.

I went of a listing appointment a few months ago.  Had a wonderful meeting with the homeowners and they just did not think the timing was right to make a move.  I wrote them a thank you note and then put their folder away for a rainy day.  I noticed there was a new listing and what, it was their home.  How could that be?  I wrote a note and we had a lovely visit.  I blame it on the fact we have not had a rainy day and therefore I did not keep in touch.

Excuses, excuses ... what next?  Have a hard self visit to see if you are happy for the direction your business is moving, life is treating you.  Remember with any action you have the choice, you control that choice.  I decided to eat, eat, and gobble down those delicious thin mints and I also made that decision that weight gain would happen unless I altered my other eating and exercise.  Choice and consequence.  Be brave and make smart choices and reap positive results.  Choose to be smart in your business and not just wait for the phone to ring because it won't.  You have to earn that call.  It's all in your choice so make it a thoughtful one!

Hi Connie,

We are responsible for ourselves, and what direction our business is going. (I am thinking you can blame the Girl Scout's for your weight gain. I do.) :o)

I was a Girl Scout too, I wonder how many other people in our business were Scouts?  I'm still waiting for my cookies.

Wanda - I bought several boxes, may have accidently got your share, sorry, all gone.  Best times of my young life was as a Girl Scout, the campouts, the working on projects.  Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for all the support though, the girl scouts certainly appreciate your business. For $3.50 they sure are a great was to say thank you for just about any thing.

I really like this post, Wanda.  I, too, am weak to the call of the Girl Scout cookie.  Luckily, I have a son, so I only have to buy one box a year.  I was a Camp Fire Girl.  We sold candy.  My parents bought most of it because, with 5 kids in the house, someone was bound to get into the stash!

Charles - I well supported them this year, enjoyed every bite!

Heather - Oh, I had a cousin who was a campfire girl and love that candy too!  Thanks for visiting my posts today!  I loved those sping flowers in yours.

Hi Connie ~ I decided the per cookie or per serving calorie count on the Thin Mints box was irrelevant because I can inhale the entire box in short order.  For a few years I couldn't find a Girl Scout but they've discovered our office.  Good thing the cookies are seasonal or I would weigh twice as much.

Those darn Girl Scouts!  I have managed to NOT have a cookie encounter this year.  For some reason, nary a Scout has crossed my path.  That has NEVER happened before, since I hit the streets selling them myself as a little Brownie 40 some years ago!

If you haven't had too many rainy days, then that probably means you have been busy working with clients that are ready now. That's a good thing! We can't get them all! Also, maybe you didn't leave as much of a lasting impression than you thought? It's happened to me before....

sorry you didn't get their listing! Next time!

Hi Connie, I have to say it happens and it is the "Touch" or lack there of that gets me too.  I lost listing opportunities many times because of not having a tickler system.  Now they get a reminder once a month.  It is funny too....it has a big keeping an eye on YOUEYE on the front of the card..
the back of the card says....I'am keeping an eye on YOU!

It of course includes my phone number and says.....ready to list!  I always get a laugh and nobody thinks it is pushy.

Connie,

I blame the Girl Scouts too since I'm a GS widow.  My wife is Queen of all GS activities in our area so she is always at a meeting.  My daughter is getting her Silver Award next month so she is usually with my wife doing something related to GS.

Last week the Queen of all GS was at a meeting so yours truly took his turn sheperding Girl Scouts at a public cookie sale table across the street from Penn State University on St Pattys Day evening. The creative girls that were peddling cookies quickly figured out a sales pitch to the local student population as they strode by in various states of sobriety.  The pitch was, "Girl Scout Cookies, they go well with green beer."  That worked for the sober ones.  The not so sober students bought the girls special, 2 boxes for $7.00 or 3 for $10.50.  Needless to say, the little cookie "hawkers" sold all their cookies and off we went to celebrate with pizza and an endless discussion about why 20 year old college students drink green beer.  Why do they?

It didn't generate any referrals for my business but my daughter and her GS buddies laughed a lot and that is better than drinking too much green beer with under age college students!

By the way, the Queen of all Centre County Girl Scouts has a pallet load of cookies in my garage so place your order soon.

Liz- a secret ... shhh ... the Thin Mints are actually the Keebler Grasshopper cookies are a darn close copy.  Truly a sad weight day when that was discovered!  Waves of Girl Scouts hit me and I buy and give most to my children to take to college.  It is there that the disappearing act happens overnight between friends and room mates.

Janna - you must go in hiding or out of town, the manage to unearth people and set up stands everywhere.

Sandy - lessons learned!

Gary - love your approach and it sounds fun.  Thanks for visiting and sharing,

Tim -love your helping hand.  I was in Brownies and Scouts through the 7th grade and only when we moved to a small town in 8th grade that had no troops did I quit.  Love the Girl Scouts and the great memories.  My mom was one of the leaders and so involved.  I think Green Beer and Cookies sound like a wonderful combo, that is if I were young and in college.  Ahhh ... those days.  Thanks for the visit and kudos to you for your great support to your family.

Connie,

Girl Scout cookies are my nemesis!! Especially Thin Mints!!

You are absolutely right about THE CHOICE, sometimes it is easier to blame or to find excuses, but when the day is done it all boils down to choice!

Cherimie - thanks for the visit, you are one busy lady!  Choice is the key and it is yours to make it a good one or poor.

Toula - I was inspired when I took the last cookie out of the package and tossed the box.  I was thankful that was the last of my temptation in my face and thankful that I would now stop making that bad choice.

It's the Thin Mints that kil me and my willpower. Then, just when you thought all the girls scouts had moved out of your neighborhood....they started selling them in front of the grocery store! Adapting to the "new" market....those are some smart girl scouts!

COnnie, sorry to hear about the missed listing, but you learned a great deal from that, and the cookies! I am right there with you girlfriend.  At least your vice is only one time a year!  I have many of them and need to get back to having some will power..I will start tomorrow LOL!

I'm going to actually blame my husband for this one Connie not the Girl Scouts .... he made the unilateral decision to purchase 2 boxes of girl scout cookies this year from any GS who stopped by our house.... there is a longer story behind this but I'll leave it at that and NO I won't be giving out our house address! And yes there are always consequences to our actions sometimes good, sometimes not so much.

HI CONNIE!  Oh those pesky little cookies - and you can eat a whole box in one sitting!  On the upside, it would be a fun way to practice making good choices. Like choosing to eat one cookie for every new listing.  Now wouldn't that be motivating! -- Nice one! -- Gabrielle

... I have an idea ... buy the boxes of cookies, then send them all to your clients so they remember you when it's time to list - and your tummy, thighs & hips get a break too !!!!!!!

I know it's not the yummiest solution, but it's a thought !!!! lol

The underlying message in here is excellent Connie ... love the post !!!

Cheers !
