Have a little respect for your fellow agent...

If you are one of the proud or the few I'd love to hear from you and if you're not but have figured out a way to end this madness let me know also.

Here's one of the scenarios:  You have this property and you call the listing agent for some more information.  As your asking the questions you need for your client you can tell the other guy (gal) is really getting upset. What's the deal here??  You are trying to help them with a sell and their getting mad at you for asking questions, or they seem not to have time and are in a mad rush to get you off the line.

I understand in these times, time is money but hey here that's what I'm trying to help you do is make money!!  Why are you giving me the brush off?  I can assure you if I have some property and you call me and have or don't have a client I WILL give you the same amount of respect and time as though you were handing me a client on a silver platter.  If time is tight I might ask to call you back but rest assured I will and spend all the time you require.  So again I ask have a little respect for your fellow agent they just might be trying to help you make that sell....... Remember: "It's a great day to buy or sell a home."

Hey James,

Great post and our MLS board had a meeting about this very topic, communicating and respect amongst fellow agents and customers, lets get back to Real Estate 101.

James, it is just respect.  If they are that busy, they should be good enough agents to know the basics.   It takes all kinds!!!

You never know what is going on behind the scenes.  Doesn't excuse the lack of professionalism but maybe the picture was wider than you were aware.  Concentrate on getting those answers.  If an agent appears to be taking offense, etc. ask ... is there a better time I can call you back to discuss or if I email you these questions would that be better?  That way you have tipped them off of their behavior and given them two polite ways to correspond better.  Good luck!

James - well of course!  You are working for your Seller what would they think if you didn't have time to answer every question you could and get more info if needed.  This is an important time in every buyer and sellers life - they need us to always be professional!

Thanks,

Kathy

Like everything in life there are some good and some bad. I have had agents go the extra mile and other that wouldn't toss water on you if you were on fire. I just make mental notes when searching the MLS. That agents home just may get skipped.

James unfortunately rudeness is not limited to Realtors. I am finding that our society is not one of patience. I find that "customer service" is not a priority among our society as a whole. I would think that now, if ever, people would understand that the "Golden Rule" is Golden for a reason. But optimist that I am, I keep hope alive.

Hi James - Mutual respect is an important quality of professionals in our industry.  It's always great to have the opportunity to work with an agent who is professional in every aspect of their business.

James, you hit the nail on the head, Respect.  I have had agents snipe at me on the phone when I call for a lockbox code. HELLO? I want to SHOW YOUR LISTING.  I often wonder if Mr&Mrs Seller are aware of the listing agents attitude? Goes back to .. attract more bees with honey than vinegar!  :)

James, this goes hand-in-hand with returning phone calls. If an agent doesn't have respect and common courtesy for their fellow agents, I often wonder how they treat their clients. This is a people business and some agents seem to forget that other agents are also people.

HI JAMES!  I call everyone back if an agent calls and has questions about my listings -- and I will answer all their questions.  Over and over if I have to!  Just imagine what those agents are like with their Sellers!    -- Gabrielle
