5 Things I learned at Blogger's Club

So, I had this idea - the funny thing is I had know idea it would work.  A few of us from the DC area (like Pat Kennedy, Jim Downing, and Derek Massey) got together for lunch at my office to chat about blogging, Active Rain, tweeting, et al.  I thought it would be nice to share ideas, and topics so we could have something to write about other than the stuff in our heads.

I am hear to tell you - it was AWESOME!  I learned so much my head hurts (See picture below)

So, in the spririt of sharing, here are a couple ideas I leave the session with:

1) RE BarCamp is something I have to do!

2) Blogging is about a community - not sitting behind a computer and typing

3) Twitter is probery the coolest thing ever - even if I don't fully grasp it

4) Grease dripping pizza is not a good thing to have near by my Macbook Pro

5) I need to start meeting my fellow blogger's way more often

Anyway, isn't it amazing that spending an hour over lunch with my virtual friends could be so rewarding in the meta-physical sense.  Thanks, guys and see you next time!

Anyone wanting to host the next one?

Sounds like fun!  If it weren't for the virtual world, I wouldn't have a job right now.  So, way to go!

Darrin, thanks for hosting.  It was great to see you, and meet fellow bloggers Jim and Pat.

To me, reinforcement can be as important as learning.  The one thing that has been rattling around my head since leaving the office is your attitude towards adding video to your blogs.  As we wrapped up, you said, bluntly, "I'm doing it.  I'm just doing it."

This is precisely what folks need to do with any of this.  Dive in, and do it.  Social media marketing needs a strategy, but you can't conceptualize the stategy without understanding the tools.  Get in the water, get a little wet, then take your advanced swimming lessons.

Love the virtual world. You have to attend an Inman conference. Your head will really be spinning then.

Sounds like a great idea, I should try something like that here in Cleveland. I have been meaning to try out Twitter it just seems so complicated. I actually used to work in the DC area ( mortgage business ), lived in the Willoughby right on the border of MD/DC.  and Mid Atlantic Settlement Services sounds familiar. That isn't owned by a guy named Michael Perry is it?

Dan/Amy, we are likely a different Mid-Atlantic Settlement Services.  Formerly NRT Mid-Atlantic, we changed our name a couple of years ago.  We cover Maryland, DC and Northern VA.

BTW, Twitter does require some investment of time to get the hang of, but is great for meeting new people.  Should you join, feel free to follow me at @DerekMassey.
