Good Samaritan

The Erie, PA newspaper, Erie Times News, headline didn't read, 'Good Samaritan' but read: Man shot on area street.  It wasn't the headline that caught my attention.  It was the name of a middle class suburb in my hometown of Erie, PA.  Like other cities we expect such events to occur inner city not the suburbs.  The first sentence of the article told of a ten year-old being awakened by a gunshot outside her home just before six a.m.  She woke her father who opened his door to assist the wounded young man at his doorstep.  Details aside, while her father called 911, the young girl brought the man a pillow, blanket and tweezers to remove the bullet.  Her father remarked about her calmness.  "She's just an amazing kid.  I think she's going to be an EMT."

Footnote:  Whatever the young man was involved in, he was apologetic and grateful for the assistance offered by father & daughter.  The authorities are still looking for the shooter.

Hi Mary - That's a great story.  Good Samaritans come in every shape, form, and yes, age.

On another note, I'm familiar with your area.  I grew up in Conneaut, Ohio and spent a lot of time in Erie as a youngster; especially the batting cages at the airport.

Wow, Mary.  Great post.  I would hope I would be willing to answer the door if someone knocked before 6 am.  It's impressive that such a young girl would be so calm.  There's a calling answered at a young age if ever I saw one.

Jon--You are so right.  That is why this story needed to be told.  Sometimes the paper or local TV stations feature Good Kids.  This should be one of them.  Conneaut, OH is only about 16 miles from my home in Fairview near Avonia Rd/Trout Run.  The batting cages are gone and Lowes is there.  Changes.  Thanks for stopping. Mary
