When notable oxymorons come to mind the classic ones inevitably rise to the top (military intelligence, jumbo shrimp) but we have a new Green one to toss on the heap – Clean Coal. That term seems to have been bandied about recently but at this point it really can be seen as more than smoke (dirty polluting smoke) and mirrors.
Speaking of smoke and mirrors, the Oscars occurred a few weeks ago and if the Hollywood set gave out a Green award for the best short satire it would be the recently released Clean Coal commercial directed by the Cohen Brothers. In general, we like the dark satirical direction of their films (mostly their early stuff like Fargo, Miller’s Crossing) but not so much with their latest work (Burn After Reading).
Watch the 31 seconds of satirical bliss at ThisIsReality.org Just because something has the work “clean” or “green” or “eco” doesn’t mean it’s true. A lot of products and companies lie (oh wait that’s called greenwashing). Wake up and smell the CO2 people and enjoy the comedy.
For the sequel, maybe “the Dude” can make a pitch for eliminating GMOs in our food chain.
I found the Cohens brothers commerical quite dissapointing, no facts, just hyperbole.
I hate it when science is hijacked by public opinion.
