 What are the hours for the Treasurer's office?

  • The normal office hours are
       Monday through Friday
       8.00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Phone calls are accepted from
       7:15 AM to 5:15 PM
       Monday through Friday

  • On major holidays the office is closed

How you can pay your bill.

  • McHenry County Treasurer's Office
  • Any bank in McHenry County
  • Online and pay by credit card or direct withdrawal. Fees apply.
  • You can call 1.800.272.9829 and pay by credit card. Fees apply.
  • Last but not least you can mail in your payment.

The address on my bill is wrong; how do I change it?

  • You should contact the Supervisor of Assessments office at 815-334-4290 to correct the mailing address

 What if, for some reason, I have to pay my taxes late?

  • State law requires that after the due date, a late penalty is added at the rate of 1 ½% per month

  • This penalty is not prorated

  • The exact amount of the penalty is printed on your tax bill

How does my mortgage company know what my property taxes are?

  • The mortgage company sends each county a payment file, accompanied by a single check, to pay the real estate taxes of all properties on which it holds funds in escrow for that purpose
