It's funny how things cross paths.  It's been said before that there are no coincidents.  HHHMMMM....  My husband, Tim, does home improvement and handy-man services around northern Atlanta, which has been great because he is my 'handy-man' referral on my written consultations for home staging clients.  He is also a recommended vendor for our Metro-Atlanta ASHSR chapter. We've created that opportunity for things to cross paths for us, but this situation was really cool.

Recently he was hired, by referral from one of his other clients, to replace doors for a man in Roswell.  Through conversation, and mentioning my home staging business, my husband found out that this man was an inventor and had, in fact, created a tool he'd tried to market to home stagers!  Actually, he claims to have sold some to a group of Canadian home stagers although I never found out what group.

Pretty ironic, right?

He gave my husband a sample of the tool to bring home to me to try out.  It's called the Picture Placer.  It is a tool to be used when hanging art work that uses wires.  You simply hang the print on the Picture Placer, then decide where you want the print to hang on the wall and then gently push the art against the wall to create a small mark to indicate where to hang the picture-hanging hook.  Voila, hang your art on the hook and you have the print where you want it.  No need to rehang because it was up too high or too low, or too far to the left or right.

Check out their website for more information, including a video tutorial, and to order yours today.

And no, I don't get a commision for any sales.  Just sharing a cool tool that might be of interest and worth an investment to your home staging tool kit.

But that will take all the fun out of putting numerous holes in my clients walls!  Thanks for the tip.

Abby ~ I've been using a similar product like this for a couple of years now, and they are GREAT -- especially if you're hanging one of those pieces that have 2 sawtooth hangers (I hate those -- but this gadget really helps make them straight) ... also good for hanging companion prints side by side.

I think i might have seen this product and wondered if it actually worked because like everyone else, I don't always get that right on the first time.... though the old addage of measure twice, cut (in this case make hole) one is still a good plan without the gadget....

I also have a tool simular to this one in my kit.  I love it...especially the level that is built right in. Thanks for sharing, Abby.

Abby I received one of these from my redesign instructor in 2004 and have since lost it.  It's in somebody's house and they won't tell me they have it.  It was very handy and I haven't replaced it because I found it awkward with heavy wired art.  I just couldn't lift the art up high enough to use the gadget and I'm too clumsy to climb my step-stool with that hanger on the wire and heavy art.  MY problem, but thanks for sharing it!

Thank you for sharing the link to this website - like Ginger, I lost a similar hanging tool.  This looks like a great product and replacement!  I have bookmarked and will be ordering one!

Hey everyone,  thanks for all your comments and feedback.  Most of my art is with the sawtooth hangers as previously mentioned so I've yet to actually use it myself.

You know, Ginger, I don't recall seeing any mention of weight limits, etc, and that would be something to think about.  Typically prints with wires can be fairly heavy, so that would be a word to wise to consider when using this product.  Thanks for sharing your experience with it!

This sounds great, I am going to get one.  Another idea for hanging art (seems strange) but it works,  is toothpaste.  Put a dab on the sawtooth type hanger (in the middle) and place the picture on the wall right where you want it, press lightly, remove and the toothpaste should leave a small mark for nail placement.

Sorry for my delay in responding but THANKS for all of your comments.  I hope you find it useful, those of you that decided to give it a shot.

I received a note from Mr. Strobel, the man who invented it, saying 'thank you' for all the referrals for his product, based upon the blog post.  You guys rock!  Just goes to show how powerful our AR platform really is.  Have a great week!

Abby,

I have acquired two different gadgets over the years for hanging pictures and though handy, neither was perfect for one reason or another.  I even had a home-made version that someone suggested years ago that was handy.  This one seems simple and easy to pack-may have to add this to my collection-third time's a charm, right?  Thanks for the info-I hope he does well with this.
