Bluebonnets, a Ladybird Legacy

By
Real Estate Agent with Sky Realty South Austin

I think everyone has heard of Ladybird Johnson's mission of wildflowers and bringing them back to the hills and roadsides of Texas.  It will be forever a living legacy to LadyBird, the bluebonnets that line our roadways and paths.  Here are a few in this drought stricken year, still they come up and show us their colors.  How Lucky am I to live in Texas and enjoy this sight every year!

Gail.  We have a Lady Bird Johnson Park along the George Washington Parkway along the Potomac River in Virginia.

It's beautiful and in the Spring there are about 1000 Dogwood trees in bloom and about a Million Daffodils and Tulips.

Love the wildflowers!  Went hunting for some yesterday but our weather hasn't cooperated yet to coax them all out.

Thanks to all for commenting, this week the sun is suppose to shine and the photos will be better, I just needed to get some up because I have known the weeds to outgrow the flowers around here when it gets rainy and humid.  As the past week, so thanks for stopping in all.

Silvia, they are indeed pretty and very unforgettable.

Terry, glad you got to see some, the photos were taken along Loop 360 so they are probably the same ones you saw on your way to KWI while here in Austin.

Lenn, thanks for the link, I enjoyed that also.  Ladybird was quite admired here in Austin for her works and the National Wildflower Center named after her is just down the road from me.

JL, yes they do, its amazing around here, with some rains we can have flowers on our roadside for months and months.

Shirley, me too!

Cindy, when ours are fading we can enjoy photos of yours.  :)

Like you, I love wildflowers, Gail. It's such a wonderful way to welcome spring. Thank you for those lovely photos. In CA, we have an abundance of poppies, which is probably why they are called California poppies. :)

Hi Gail... Every spring when the wildflowers bloom and their beuty is displayed, I am always reminded that we have Lady Bird Johnson to thank for this most precious gift.  What a fitting legacy for such a special figure in our nation's history!

OH Elizabeth I remember each spring we would drive up the Grapevine, now IH5 to Gorman and see all the poppies, the hillsides were orange, what good memories and the lupines, purplish-blue, the bluebonnets are in the lupine family I think.  (?)

Lara, it is a special thing to see, this week the pink primroses are coming out.  No one can drive down the hiways and byways of Austin and not see Ladybirds Legacy.

Jane, yes, I am trying to get even better photos this week. If I do, I will share them too.

Steve, Ladybird was well loved here, every spring one can see why.
