The FAUX PAS (NOT) Heard 'round the World (OR: What happened to MOTOWN!?)

MOTOWN"The Shot Heard Round the World" blasted out on April 19th, 1775 and it was the start of our Nation's Revolutionary War.  Yup, that lovely little ditty that had US vs. the Red Coats.

Since then, we've kissed and made up.

But, did anyone else hear the other shot. . . or was it the shot in the dark??  Last Sunday, on 60 Minutes, our President Obama made a joke.  Hear it here (around 13:30)

We were told not to invest in the auto industry, HA HA HA

REALLY!?!?

I don't find this funny at all.  Last time I checked, Detroit was in the United State of America.  Thousands of families came up from the South to work in the auto plants.  They were paid a better wage and were given a standard of living unequal anywhere in the nation, at that time, for unskilled employees.

And from that, our culture grew.

The MOTOR TOWN . . . became MOTOWN!

I grew up on MOTOWN.  I remember buying 45 RPM's and saw the STAR ON THE MAP!  Each and every artist was groomed and they produced a wonderful American staple.  MOTOWN!

I grew up listening to MOTOWN . . . as did all of America.  We saw the artists on the Ed Sullivan show.  Remember??  Little Stevie Wonder?  The Temptations?  Diana Ross and the Supremes!?

I grew up listening to MOTOWN . . . but did our President?  Nope.  I'm his age, and he would have been doing what any other boomer would have been doing . . . listening to MOTOWN.  I think he was in school someplace else during his formative years.  I doubt they broadcast MOTOWN into Indonesia, I could be wrong.

I grew up on Motown . . .

But, now . . . thanks to the "don't invest in the auto industry" HA HA HA mode of thinking . . . Detroit is now on lock-down.

And it's SAD to me.  Very sad.  People lived there, grew up there, worked there . . . and it's the butt of a gallows joke?!?

Our auto industry . . . don't invest in it?!?

Did we really need to hear this?  . . . Or did we?

Real estate is pushed to unheard of levels, and the vultures are lining up to pick the flesh oFf that CITY.

It's time to rebuild America, and that starts with our auto industry -- which I hope to all that is Holy isn't on the auction block.

Thanks Carla for sticking up for Detroit.  Sadly the president talks too much.  Too bad he's just become a politician.  All campaingn promises and no delivery yet.

Carla, I could see this coming a mile away -- our President knows zilch about economics, and what we need most in a president today is an economist -- and I knew he was going to get stuck with these problems.  However, I don't think any of the other presidential candidates know anything about economics either -- except maybe Romney or Huckabee.  They are both successful business owners, but unfortunately didn't receive serious consideration as presidential candidates.
