O wow amazing picture. The only butterfly's you see here in California flying around are Morpho butterfly's well from what I have seen. Thank you for sharing that beautiful picture.

Thank you,

Karen- What a beautiful butterfly and is it native to Oregon. These butterflies are rare and I have only seen one in a glass box full of butterflies on the Las Vegas Strip!

Hi Kim & Robert - We used to go to Goleta, California to see the Monarchs when they would come in. Here in Southern Oregon we have quite a few native butterfly species, but alas, the Malachite is not one of them. The Malachite Butterfly is indigenous to South & Central American, although they've made their way in to the Southern Regions of the US - Florida and Texas, I hear.

This lovely creature was at the Pacific Science Museum in the Tropical Butterfly house with many other amazing species. One decided to roost on my back for quite a while. It was an amazing experience, this butterfly house.

Thank you both for your comments.

Holy cow, Karen, I've never seen a butterfly that color.  That would make a GREAT tattoo!   ;-)

Hi Randy - Now there is an idea for you! I told our youngest if they ever get a tattoo, I'M getting one. I'll have to keep this one in mind.

I wish Spring were here...it's been uncommonly windy and cold here in the  Washinton D.C. area lately.

Hi Konnie - Sounds like you are getting a late bit of winter in your neck of the woods. My cousins just moved from your area, and said they had been having a pretty mild winter this year. Not to make you jealous, but we have 78 degrees and beautiful sun here in Southern Oregon today. Makes it hard to get any work done! Thanks for stopping by.
