The South is so much more friendlier than the North. When you walk down the street, folks wave at you, or as they ride by in their car as you are just sitting out front on the porch.

Now being from New jersey, my first thought was....why are these old men all hitting on me...the nerve of them and told my daughter, I am not sitting out front on the porch anymore...I have every old man in town, hitting on me....My daughter said, Mom what do you mean?  I said, well they ride by and they smile and wave and say Hi...now why would they do that?  She responded...that's the southern way...and started laughing

You can't get a good bagel or pizza, unless you consider Pizza Hut a good pizza.  Sure you can get cat fish and hush puppies and grits...but I miss my hoagies and fresh bagels from the Bagel Shoppe and Ice Creame shoppes, they dont seem to be around either.

But you can see for miles...green grass and no strip mall on every corner. It's not congested and it's like the 50's in New Jersey but with today's clothing and technology.

Folks go to church and church is a very important part of their life. It's their socialization as well. After service, they have a dinner at the church....now that I haven't heard of.  Or I went to another church as they had a Free Pancake Dinner and of course donations were welcomed, but there were some that came that you knew this might be their only food for the week.

It's so different here.  Do I like it?  I could if I had some friends that I could relate to. I have been here a month and I have met a few folks but they are all married and no one wants a fifth wheel.

I did go to the Dennis Winery with the teachers from my daughters school, that was nice and out to dinner.

Tomorrow if the weather is nice, will go to Badin Lake and take some pictures.

Alcoa was the factory in town and they closed down and the cute little community that flourished has come on to some hard times but the people are still the same.

You'll learn to love the south if you just give us a chance.  Sometimes you have to take the first step to be a friend but then you will have a friend for life.

Nancy, you need to visit Minnesota sometime. It's called "Minnesota Nice." I live 35 miles west of Minneapolis in a small town kinda where everybody knows your name.

Partly that's just a function of a smaller town. We live in a small town in Arizona, and people are friendly like that here. Many people have moved here from bigger cities/urban areas, and they tend to slow down and "friendly up" after awhile. Good luck with making friends, there must be some compatible people around.

Nancy,  it is a big difference between city and country life.  I have always had a mix of both because I grew up in the city but spent summers in the country. People are generally friendlier and move at a slower pace.  Both places have their good points and their bad points. I am sure after another month you'll start to love it.

Welcome to the South Miss Nancy (or, should I say Miz Nannnnccceeee).  I am a southern girl with an import husband....he is from upstate New York.  The language barrier may be tough at first but you will get it.  I moved a few counties away from my family and they all think that I am northern because my accent has changed.

As far as the pick up lines.....keep thinking that....what a great ego stroke.

Ya'll come back now ya here.
