Palm-Aire to get $1 million dollar city park with tennis courts & more! Paid by the City of Pompano Beach

Thanks to our local District 5 politician, George Brummer, Palm-Aire Country Club has been awarded with a city park that could cost upwards of 1 million dollars. Of the 44 parks and recreations centers in Greater Pompano Beach, yet only 4 are found west of I-95. However that number is going to be changing after the Pompano Beach City Commission very recently agreed to begin planning a 5 acre city park right in the center of Palm-Aire.

With approximately 15,000 residents, Palm-Aire houses almost one-third of the city's population (and voters) so I think we are entitled to the benefits of a city park.

The city is spending $750,000 to buy the 5 acres of ruined tennis courts (thanks to Hurricane Wilma) and intends to revamp the property with new tennis and handball courts as well as either a basketball or volleyball court. Probably even a tot lot as well.

All in all it's great news for the residents of Palm-Aire because the eyesore of a defunct tennis court will be replaced with a brand new place where locals can unwind and stay healthy.

Is this project still in the works? Who can I contact to find out where we stand with this project?

Yes the project is still underway. We have George Brummer to thank for this gift as he was the principal architect in creating it. I believe he is listed in the phone book.

I spoke with Mr. Brummer last week and here is where we stand. The land has been bought, however the planning of the park has yet to begin. As I understand it the construction will be on hold for budgeting reasons until after the start of the city's next fiscal year, which is in the fall (October or November).

So it is safe to assume that the park will not be available for use until early 2010.

Best wishes,

It is tru that some skate area will be built in this park, will be great. We need a safe place where our kids can hang out with out being fined. There are a lot of young families in palm aire. It is not all about the elderly.

Thanks
