You may notice a few more dollars in your next paycheck.  The "Making Work Pay Tax Credit" goes into effect this week.  Employers are supposed to have adjustments in place by Wednesday, April 1, 2009.  This is a part of the economic recovery package passed in February.

You won't be able to buy a new car with it, but it could get you a pizza if you have a coupon!  How much money are we talking about?  For singles you may see $15-20 per week.  For marrieds who file joint returns, probably about $15-20 per week.  If you have earned income, you're eligible.

For more details, read the CNN story

If you've been thinking of buying a home in Orange County, California, you may want to take that extra $40 - $60 a month and put it into a savings account.  It doesn't seem like very much in each paycheck, but it could add up to an extra $400-$800 per year.

Hey Marlene,

This is great information for everyone out there to just pay attention to in their paychecks.  There is so much information out there about all of the stimulus and a lot of other parts to it, but you do not hear much about this one.  I am sure that some smaller companies who handle their own payroll might just miss this.

Hmmm, somehow I missed hearing about this.  Since I don't get a paycheck I guess it won't put pizza money in my pocket.

Hi Khash - I was glad to read about this.  I thought it was important to bring it to everyone's attention because that small amount could get overlooked and spent before taking an opportunity to put it into savings.

Hi Richard - Yes, you'll just have to find your pizza dollars elsewhere - got bottles and cans to recycle?

And us poor people who get a 1099 at the end of the year get what from this? Hey, just send me a check today Mr. President, I promise to spend it!
