This upcoming weekend my daughter will be getting married and we have entered the panic stage.  You know the stage.  If ANYTHING, no matter how small, is not just right, the world is ending and life CANNOT go on as we know it stage.  Remember, I am the dad and just along for the ride, right?  Wrong!

It started out with questions.  What do you think about this, or how can we do that.  As the day approaches the dad task have started picking up also.  Today it was, you need to drive to Columbia to have my brother try on his tux.  It can't wait because Friday will be too late.  If you don't get him here tomorrow, WE CAN'T GET IT FIXED IN TIME.  Then I made the big Dad BOO BOO!  I said, "Well it's not our fault the tux place was 4 days late getting the tux back." Thats when my daughter got her low voice and told me it needed to be done.  Dad's you know the voice, the low voice meaning if you don't do it, THE WORLD WILL END AND YOU WILL BE THE CAUSE, voice.  OK, I'll move heaven and earth and work that 21/2 hour trip into my schedule.  We'll get through this and everything will be fine.  If we survive the Panic Stage.

Just think how relaxed you'll be come Saturday afternoon, Ron.  My advice?  Drink heavily! :)

Excuse me Ron, but if you were posting on ActiveRain this week, you would probably have enough time to drive to Florida and back. Really, where are your priorities?

Seriously - congratulations. I hope you have a beautiful day and a glorious wedding.

Just make sure the drinking comes half an hour after the ceremony, Ron, not three hours before, or you might hear your daughter's REALLY low voice : )

You are now a Father of the Bride, eh?  In addition to the above advice, just remember the mantra "This too shall pass." :-)  Lots of good memories will be made before it is all over.

Dear Ron,

You seem to be dealing very well with this!

Take a deep breath!

Best Wishes,

Ron, My daughter got married last year and I managed to avoid any of the responsibility. The key is to make dumb ass recommendations early on and they won't bother you again. Good Luck! Oh yeah...the open bar helped too. Rich

I noticed as each one of my sons got married just how happy I was to have only boys. We still went in half on the cost but the girls parents always had the panic look. By the day of the wedding we were pulling the dads into the room they had set up for us and would hand them a flask. After the first time they kept coming back into our room every few minutes until the wedding started.

Good luck and take a flask to the wedding with you.

Heather - Drink heavily and relax Saturday afternoon.  Got it.

Lisa - I guess my priorities are all messed up.  At least that is what I am being led to believe.

Bob - Drink after the wedding, not before.  Got it.

Liz - I tried that suggestion.  I got the look.  Didn't make it again.

Shirley - I keep telling myself that also.

Barbara - I've already passed the deep breath and am now doing lamaze breathing.

Rich - I tried that too and got the look.  Didn't try it again.  Visit open bar often.  Got it.

Denise - We've got the panic look like we have just been told the IRS is going to audit us.  Our son is our second and last kid.  Take a flask!  Got it.

So to sum up everything here.  Drink after the wedding and drink often.  GOT IT.

Ron, Congratulations! I think it will all be worth it once you are walking your daughter down the aisle. She sounds like a Daddy's girl. I was one and I expected my dad to it all.  And I am sure that everything you do will mean more to her than she can ever express in words.
