"Stop the Stink"

If you live in Pickering or the very surrounding area pay close attention.  The fight to stop a Sewage Odour Control Facility built in Pickering is still ongoing.     This facility is being proposed by York Region.

This is a 25 acre project slated to go into the area of Altona Road and Third Concession in Pickering.  Studies have shown that no one can guarantee that this facility will not emit foul odours into the air.

Wind studies have shown that air travels south east over the facility most of the time.   There are no promises that the emissions expelled from the 40 foot stack will not reach our neighborhoods.

What does this mean for us in the community?  We don't really know all of the long term effects from this?  What could possibly happen to our property values? What about new housing developments that are in the area?

I sure don't want to look out of my windows to see this 40 foot stack in the air or smell it.

There are many ways to get involved:

•·         Go to the website for full and up to date information www.stopthestink.ca

•·         Sign the petition

•·         Contact your regional and city councilors

•·         Attend the meetings and fundraisers

There is a vast array of information on the website.  I just wanted to bring it to light

This sounds familiar.  We here in Coldstream Ontario. Just outside of London) are in the midst of a bio sludge facility wanting to be established here.  No let me correct this they want to use an existing farm slurre pit that has been previous cracked to store this biosuldge. Its not even are own sewage it from the hamilton area.

This bio sludge is not ours and we are being threatened to take on the " you know what of the bigger cities"

Being out in the country we are on septic systems and wells for water.  We take the time to monitor our own systems.

Keep up the fight. Let them take care of their own "s..." themselves.  I think they should place them in the middle of the cities.  Right down town and they can smell their own after products.

What really bothers me is that others have to take on the results of others and the rural communities often get shafted.

Kimberly,we have a sewage treatment plant right in the middle of town, which I assume was pretty far out years ago when the area was just developing.  Just driving by the area invokes the gag relex.  I can't imagine living nearby.

Isabel ~ I am glad to know we are not the only community going through this - it is just ridiculous!
