There is nothing I like better than Spring in Kentucky.

Like most people, I can't wait to get outside and explore the countryside looking for evidence that Spring has sprung!

Adventure is my middle name and a few days ago, I told my Mom(she's 78) that would indeed be doing something with her for the afternoon.

I never tell her what it might be for fears of getting her hopes too high!

I randomly pick a day that I can keep the schedule fairly clear to create an adventure. Anyway, the day arrived and we took off to explore some of my favorite Kentucky back roads. To keep her interested, I hinted of a lunch in an exotic location. (Isn't this what you do with your kids??)

My idea was to look for spring eye candy while driving along Tates Creek Road in Madison County then cross the Kentucky River at Valley View Ferry into Fayette County. Later we would travel into Jessamine County and find some lunch.

As I drove along, I found this patch of daffodils that I just had to back up an click a pic of. Then I saw it was an ancient cemetary above the stone slave wall. I loved how the sycamore trees behind were still without leaves leaving the beautiful white bark visible.

On the other side of the barn. The creek meanders along all the way to the Kentucky River.

The sycamore trees are found all over Kentucky near creeks many times because they really love water. They are some of the most beautiful trees here.

Further on down Tates Creek road is the Valley View Ferry. I love taking this route because the view from the ferry on the Kentucky River is a peaceful one. After crossing over. We travel on into the Nicholasville area.

I was intrigued with a small side road call Stinnett Lane. As I turned into the lane, Mom always asks where I am going. Like I always have a destination in mind! I told her I had no idea. Which was true! Don't you just like adventures to unfold sometimes? Here are a few pictures of what I found on this lane.

First was an abandoned and rusty railroad bridge.

Soon there will be leaves on the trees and many of the good shots I got this day would be hard to see.

This is the same railroad track that comes through Madison County across that Kentucky River and into Jessamine County.

It might be nice to take the same pics during different seasons to see the contrast.

Almost across from this bridge was a shed in someones backyard that was interesting with all the old signs.

From some of my pictures you can see glimpses of the stone slave walls that are historic to Kentucky.

We have some of the most extensive examples of stone walls built by masons years ago in the United States.

I can't imagine how long it would have taken to build these amazing stone walls using our native limestone from nearby creeks.

The creek along this lane was spectacular in serenity.

As I parked the car to take a look around, you could breathe in the sweet smell of new blossoms and fresh spring air.

To the right of this picture was the end of the lane that I started my story with.(see first picture) 

It was a private drive to an old farmhouse. I could have stayed all day to take pictures of every little sign of spring, but I had a Mom that was already asking where that promised lunch might be.

Hunger had quickly replaced her sense of adventure. So that was the end of this day's spring pictures!
