I just came back into the office from another Frisco Texas short sale closing. As I put away my file into the cabinet and calling it CASE CLOSED, along with that file, I put all my emotional baggage I invested into the transaction. It was heavy and burdening at times. Then, there are times I was on my knees praying for PEACE and direction. I have tried to walk away from it, calling it quits several times before the end. Then every time I feel that way, 5 minutes later, I pull that file out to give it another shot.

The doors closed on us several times. A couple of times, it slapped me smack in the face. HARD. Ouch!

Looking out of my office window, as the wind blew on my Japanese Maples and my Purple pin cushions, I am reminded about how each and every transaction has contributed to me becoming a better Realtor(R) to serve my next client.

I'm not sure if you have had smooth-sailing transactions ALL your career. But as I think back, I don't think that there were any smooth-sailing ones for me. Each one I thought it was, sometimes almost always come up - one way or another. Even those 800 credit score buyers with 20% down payment and good employment history. There are no slam-dunk deals.

In the midst of a transaction, sometimes people get too emotional and say things that they cannot take back. These are very nice people and nice people can get frustrated.

I wrote in my post last week about having the Courage to be the Best. I didn't realize that successful people must first need the courage to become. Success is a state of mind but the journey getting there wouldn't be made possible without courage, without sacrifices and without tears. Most of all, without fighting a good fight first.

As realtors(R), we fight our way through battles in every transaction. And sometimes, it feels we fight them with our clients too. Every transaction needs to have the emotional investment that goes into it.

So, who says that Loving to Look at houses is enough criteria to become a real estate agent? Those who are on the other side just never know how we truly do it every day and in every transaction. No one can really explain until they walk in our shoes. Be prepared for the emotional investment! It's not for the faint hearts.

Keep on fighting the good fight no matter what your battles are. I'm on to fighting my next transaction. Next!

Loreensa,The longer I'm in the business the less emotional I become. Most;y because I have more confidence in my ability to solve problems as they arise. To me a difficult transaction is just a transaction. If it were easy the consumer wouldn't need my services.

Hi Loreena... wonderful post!  There is definitely a lot of emotional baggage to file away after each short sale closing.  Somehow they wind up being much more emotionally charged than traditional transactions.  But I am always certain never to file away the lessons learned from each transaction and client I work with!

I remember my first few closings saying, "When am I going to have a closing that goes smoothly?" Answer: Still never have had one! And the current market is only intensifying that. We have to have a desire and commitment to serving others and sticking with them doing what ever it takes to stay in this career. Every day brings a new opportunity for us to to "keep fighting that good fight."

I have to pray all the way through every single transaction. Every step is another spot that can de-rail. So I pray through every angle.

Loreena,

This is some of the best advice that I have heard since becoming a REALTOR(r).  Thank you ma'am.

We have to be careful we don't become too emotionally involved in our transactions.  We cannot allow them to define our hapiness.

Love this post Loreena and I agree entirely.

There are very few - if any - slam dunk deals these days, but each one we get to the closing table gives us more experience, more strength, and more success as a Realtor - so we hang in there on every short sale, we bounce back up on every knock down, and we fight the good fight as long as we can !!

Great post - and congrats on the closing !!  (and the feature :o)

Cheers Loreena !

Hi Loreena -- You are so right, and this is something I'm not sure consumers that is something that many people understand.  The details, stress, importance of quick decision making is vitally important, among a host of other things.  Congrats on the recent short sale.

I just want to say Thanks to everyone who supported this post. I just got home from a short vacation trip and noticed 73 emails in my inbox from last checking it at 9am this morning.

Sweet suprise and thanks but I'm back to reality - which means fighting another good fight on Monday. I dont think I could give individual recognitions now.

Thanks so much again.

It's so much more emotional than I'd ever thought I sign up for.

Good fight is right. It takes a tough person to be a good realtor. I am sure you are doing a great job! In my deals, we fight for every deal in this market. It takes a lot of mental toughness and creative strategies to work through them all. Fight is right! Keep it up!

Short sales take a lot out of all of us who do them -- grief, time, frustration and that is only the short list. All the best and congrats for getting thru the one you just did.

Loreena,

In this unsteady real estate and mortgage environment even transactions that look rock solid on the outset can turn into demanding challenges. Fasten your seat belts and plow on.

Loreena - Congratulations on this featured post.  I made a comment on the most recent one and didnt realize you had been featured twice.  Very nice!  I agree that you have to keep moving forward.  Dont sit back and get discouraged.  Learn from the experience and take it with you to the next transaction.
