Albuquerque, New Mexico is currently host to one thousand five hundred eleven high school science fair finalists
from some forty-one states, the District of Columbia, and fifty foreign countries.
The students are here presenting their science projects at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair from which some will go home with awards and prizes ranging from scholarships and tuition grants to summer internships, scientific field trips, and equipment grants.
The projects on display represent every branch of scientific research: animal sciences, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and planetary science, engineering, environmental management, energy and transportation, environmental sciences, mathematical sciences, medicine and health sciences, microbiology, physics and astronomy, and plant sciences.
When I stopped by in the late afternoon today (visitors' day) the students were off at an award ceremony, but their projects were left on display for us. The projects were astoundingly varied and sophisticated. These pictures of the topics presented speak volumes and are only a tiny sample of the many presented.
It was heartening to observe that several projects in a variety of scientific fields related to green topics, concerns for the environment, and search for solutions to ecological problems. With high school students across the world coming together and sharing in problem-solving research, the future of our little green planet looks bright.
Intel Foundation, http://www.intel.com/education/sections/section3/index.htm, the city of Albuquerque, http://www.cabq.gov/ , the state of New Mexico and other financial supporters and volunteers are cheering on the efforts of the young researchers. All of these projects hold promise. Who knows which among them we will be using in the future?

Great post Eloise! It's good to hear that Green thinking was being shown. The Green Building display in the top would have been interesting to see. So glad you posted this one.
