My first baby, Carter, is now 6 months old. Motherhood is more amazing than I could have imagined! Thanks to having a wonderful career like real estate in Las Vegas, I was able to take several months off to take care of my baby boy and begin to figure out how to be a mom. My husband is my business partner so that really helped. I could support him from home if he needed anything out in the field. I've joined the working mom club and am finding a balance between work, family, exercise and anything else I can cram in.

So here's my dilema: the first half of the baby weight seemed to melt right off. I hear nursing is great for that and I think it was. Now, 6 months later I feel like I'm having to beat the rest of the weight off with a stick!

My hubby gave me a great workout DVD he bought a couple years ago called Power 90. The instructor swears that in 90 days I'll be ready for the beach. I told my husband that if I'm not bathing suit ready in 90 days this instructor is going to get a nasty letter from me! I'm just kidding. I've just never worked out so hard in my life.

I began reading Body For Life For Women and the doctor that wrote it talks about working out 5-6 days per week. I thought 5 days a week was plenty, but I just read on the back of the DVD that I'm supposed to be doing a full work out 6 days/week! What ever happened to 3 x's/week for 20 minutes??

I've stepped up my workouts and I'm in my 3rd week. It's brutal, however I'm feeling great. I wish the scale was moving faster though!

Any feedback? Tips? Experiences?

Thanks!

Well just having baby #4 6 months ago I feel your pain!!  I just recently started a workout routine with my sister.  I suggest getting someone else involved in your weight loss mission.  It just adds that little bit of extra drive you sometimes need.

Wow, Congrats on the little one!

What does your current diet consist of? Are you eating frozen or boxed products? What is your sugar intake levels?

You may perhaps already be implementing many of these tidbits:

Eliminate products with high fructose corn syrup, hydorgenated or partially hydrogenated fats, added fructose, corn starch, corn syrup, etc. For example, many off the shelf-pasta sauces contain sugar as a flavor filler.

I believe Vegas has a Whole Foods? (Or is it Wild Oats?) Every time I visit Vegas, I leave the Strip to pick up fresh fruit, milk, etc at the organic store there, often daily.

One of the best ways to eat for a slim figure is to eat a diabetic diet. This involves eating whole foods with glycemic indexes lower than 50 out of 100. The higher the number, the quicker a food gets absorbed into the body as sugar. The quicker it is absorbed, the greater the blood sugar spike, which drives appetite and can result in a negative cycle of over-eating or inordinate food cravings. Certain foods also act as infammatory agents, which have a negative and aging effect on skin. (Red meat, wheat products..)

A great book to check out on this is Dr. Perricone's book (at Amazon.com currently for a bargain price). It's not a gimmick like many diets... I started eating healthier myself not for aesthetic reasons, but because I had developed somewhat regular migraines... Without any intention, I dropped two sizes by just cutting out a lot of the food ingredients that were participants in my migraine situation (and I'd been eating what I considered "healthy" before than...). Following Perricone's suggestions also keeps me well fueled for distance running...

Let me know how it goes :)

Find a good Naturpathic doctor .. a really good one. Let someone help you with the issue. There might be issues with hormones, stress levels or any number of things that dieting until you can't stand dieting any more won't resolve. You have just had a baby and your body has had some shifts. What used to work for you may not work now.

Good luck.

My 2 cents.

Dana, I know all too well what you're feeling.  I, too, have not dropped my baby weight.  My son is now 2!  However, I know what my problem is.  I need to get motivated!  So, best of luck to you.  And remember, beauty comes from within!

Dana, you look amazing. Im sure you hear this alot as I do. As a mother of four, 2yr old. being the youngest. And since my last child. Its harder for me loose the extra pounds. Well being so comfortable with life. Not to mention being in realestate has its perks. Everyone has told me that I dont need to loose any more wieght. But its not really the weight thats bothering me. Its the inches. I could loose the wieght but not so much of the inches. I would rather loose the inches than the wieght. Does anyone follow?

Dana! Push away from the table!!! Lol!

Have you ever tried a cleanse? I just did the master cleanse in march, not for weight loss per se, and lost 15 lbs. After words I also changed my diet, which was easier than other times I had tried, and have still kept it off. Hey! I finally achieved my last Eagles goal, although 2 years later. :)~

Hope you and the baby are doing great.

I still have a lot of weight to lose, but in 2006 lost just over 40 pounds.  One of the biggest changes is I drank a lot of water.  You have to be careful not to drink over 20 ounces each hour, but do drink one 8oz glass each hour.  It truly makes a difference.

Dana, I am currently doing wieght watchers. It really does work. In one week I lost 4 lbs.

I have also done (my version of) Atkins. And lost 8 lbs in 1 1/2 wks. But , you know, how much meat only, extra low carb, can a person really eat ,anyway? Needless to say, I was only on it for  the week and a half.

Seriously ,though. It's all about portion control, lot's of veggies, low fat, and a lot of fiber.

Good luck!

I am 5' 2" and my best weight is 120 lbs. After my second (final) child was born almost 5 years ago, I weighed 170 lbs! I have always been one to gain weight easily, and on top of that, my midwife told me that some women just tend to gain much more weight during pregnancy than others.

What saved me was the diet, "What To Eat When You're Expecting." This book had a "between pregnancies" diet designed to shed pregnancy weight. I stuck to it, and got down to 120 in 6 months, almost to the day. It took a lot of discipline. I never cheated, and I did 45 minutes of aerobics every single morning.

Hi Mr. John Calvert! Great to hear from you. I hope you and family are doing well. My husband, Chris, actually did the Master Cleanse in my ninth month of pregnancy. He was gaining weight right along with me. I don't know that I'm ready for that yet. I've got to get in the right frame of mind.

Thanks to everyone else for the feedback and advice. I'm taking a little bit from each of you. I wish I got such great responses from my Las Vegas "business" blogs on Real Estate! : )

I'm happy to report that after a month of seriously working out, I've removed (I heard don't say "lost" because you don't want to find them again) close to 5 pounds and took off an inch around my waist. I was getting discouraged because the scale wasn't moving, and then we took a trip to see our family in Maine for a week. I knew I had lost the inch, and finally when we got home, my results showed up on the scale. I did eat a ton of lobster, however, I was diligent in exercising even on vacation. That was not easy but Grandma was more than happy to watch the baby.

I hate to admit that I'm turning into one of those people that actually likes the workout. I miss it if I don't do it. I've stepped it up and am working out 6 days a week, as prescribed on the Power 90. I'm getting ready to move up to level 2. It's brutal.

I was listening to Anthony Robbins (Get the Edge) and he works out everyday. His motivation is the necessity to be able to perform at an extremely high level all the time. I feel the same way, I want to be and feel top notch at  work and at home and with my community. I have to have a ton of energy, and Starbucks only does so much! The high I get from the workout sets the pace for the rest of my day. I am loving coming home in the afternoon to my son and NOT feeling completely wiped out. It has to be the exercise. That and keeping my head right, I do everything I can to avoid "stinking thinking."

That sounds so healthy. LOL!

Hopefully this aids some of you who are beating the weight off right with me. I've got 15 lbs. to go--or whatever it takes to get back in the "skinny jeans." I'm not so concerned with the number on the scale as I am with how the clothes fit. Good luck everyone!!

Dana,

Congratulations on your baby! For me 5-6 small meals a day and getting at least 1 hour of cardio a day, 3-4 days of strength and weight training a week, keeps my weight down. Please feel free to check out the Fit clubif you ever need some inspiration and motivation. :)
