I got a cold call from a real estate website tonight and I'm hopping mad!
There's a lesson here
I just got home, brought the mail in, fed the cats and started preparing dinner. My cell phone rang, and a voice starts reading from a script:
Hello, I'm calling from Realty__________ (I won't use their real name because I don't want them getting any more publicity than possible) website and we're looking for exclusive agents in your area and blah blah blah.
When he finally took a breath I said" We are on Eastern Time here, and I have just sat down to dinner. Would you please call me tomorrow?"
His response: "Which zip codes are you interested in obtaining?" At that point I hung up.
He did not listen to what I said nor did he care what I said. As far as I am concerned, I will never do business with this website company. If they ever call me again I'll give them the ‘drop dead" warning to never do so in the future.
This was a cold call. I had not inquired about the product or requested more information. The call was an intrusion, but since I am in sales I am always polite. Up to that point of no return, the EVENT HORIZON, from beyond which no business relationship can ever be created.
I feel violated. I hate to hang up on someone. But if they are not willing to communicate, there is no "conversation" to continue.
So read your script to yourself and leave me alone!
