Playing doctor with your home:

Don't forget your basment!

For many folks, the basement just is not the most popular place in their home throughout the winter months. That's because cold air descends, making the basment the coldest room in the home. But just because you might have overlooked the basment for the last several months,

Dose your basment look like this

that doesn't mean that Mother Nature did the same thing. Water buildup in the basment can lead to dry rot and the accumulation of mold. Make Inspecting your basment a top priority once winter has finally left for the season.

Don't let this happen

There was a study done by Brown Universty: This study explained that mold does not only affect your health, but can also produce depression like signs. Mold tends to like growing in darker areas, and lack of light on its own can has been known to produce depression like signs. Those who are depressed may tend to clean their homes less. The study also hypothesized that the physical effects of having mold in your home may cause the depression like symptoms, or even that mold has a direct relation to the frontal area of the drain which controls mood, and judgment. By keeping up a clean environment makes your home warm and welcoming for visitors that stop by, and the veryones that live in the home.

Dale... great post... I do not have a basement but I always tell people to keep their crawl space clean and dry. I did not know that about depression and mold. This makes me want to clean every corner of my house. Have a grewat day! Brenda :0)

Hi Dale, Basements are rare here in San Antonio.  Mold is pretty scary stuff!

Even here in the dry desert, mold can be an issue - just a little bit of moisture & those dry spores spring to life...just like the flowers, but not nearly as pretty! ;-)

Howdy there Brenda, Shirley

I'm always glad to have the both of you nice lady's stop by to visit, and leave a comment to read and reply back to. On one of my post's, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friends

Brenda - thank you kindly. It sure is real important to keep the Crawl Space of a home, clean and dry also. Seen that a Crawl Space is really just a really small basment in a way. And seen that the Subfloor is even closer to the ground and the moisture that comes from the ground. Mold can sometime's work even faster on it. Sorry I have not gotten an e-mail off to you yet. I'll get it sent this weekend.

Shirley - Mold sure is scary stuff, I did an Inspection of a home that has black mold, all over the living room floor. It has even eatten away a part of the Subflooring of that home. The home has a Crawl Space under it.

Howdy there Kent

You came by to visit, as I was replying up above. I'm always glad to have you leave a comment to read from you. On one of my post's, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friend

You are very right, that it only takes just a bit of moisture. To make it happy to move and live in a home. You sure don't want anything at all to do with Black Mold coming to visit a home. I'll take flowers any day, over mold.

Dale, that's not something we have to worry about in our area.  If you had a basement here it would be a swimming hole.

Howdy there Marchel

Always glad to have you stop by to visit, and to reply to a comment that you have taken the time to leave. On a post, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friend

You are right that most folks in the Grand State of Texas not have to worry abut a basment. But they sure to want to make sure, if they have a Crawl Space, they sure do want to make sure. That it does not get a lot of moisture in it.
