VISIT THE LIGHTHOUSE!!

The Point Lookout Lighthouse Complex (which includes the lighthouse, coal shed and buoy shed) is not open to the public except during scheduled events.  For safety reasons, the coal and buoy sheds are not open to the public at any time.  PLLPS hosts regularly scheduled monthly open house events from April through November.

The lighthouse is open to the public on the first Saturday of the month* from April through November, from 10 am until 2 pm.  The open house events are free and no reservations are required, however, visitors will be required to pay the standard park entrance fees.  Please note that fees are subject to change and are for admission to the park.  Admission to the lighthouse is free, but donations to help with the preservation efforts are greatly appreciated.  Docents will be available a the open house events to answer questions about the rich maritime history of the lighthouse.

OPEN HOUSE EVENTS

LOCATION:  Scotland, Maryland in St. Mary's County

DATE:  First Saturday of the month, April-November (except Holidays) *

TIME:  10 am until 2 pm

COST:  Free, must pay park entrance fees

* Note:  If the normal open house event falls on a holday weekend, the open house will occur on the second Saturday of the month.  For 2009, the July and September Open House Events will be held on the second Saturday of the month.

Hi Rita, Point Lookout Lighthouse is a destination for sure! We have many lighthouses here in Michigan since we have so much shoreline! It's an enjoyable trip to visit a new lighthouse in the summer with picnic fixings in tow! BTW, I especially light your photo of the sandy shoreline. Nice.

How tall is that lighthouse? It looks like a little baby lighthouse. Aww. Cute little lighthouse. lol And it still runs on coal?? Is that common in the north?
