Did you know that approximately every 3 seconds, someone becomes the victim of identity theft? These staggering figures show us that it is important to take steps to protect our home and finances....but how? The following tips are some ways to help keep you and your finances safe:

*Review your credit report on a regular basis and check for suspicious activity.

*Do not give out personal information over the phone, such as credit card or social security numbers.

*Never give our your pin number to anyone

*Install security programs on your computer to prevent hackers.

ID theft is a bigger problem than most folks realize, and it's only getting worse... thanks for the reminder. I personally have Identity Theft Shield from Pre-Paid Legal and I feel much safer.

I had my identity stolen about five years ago, as did some of my neighbors. Apparently they had gone through the neighborhood on trash day and gotten some good information. Since I use a shredder, the only thing I could figure out is that one of my employees at the time threw something out without shredding it. I check my bank account daily online, so I found it very rapidly and was able to put a stop to it. The stuff the lady was buying was from specialty women's stores, which I've never had the need for -- LOL.
