Can I be licensed to sell Real Estate in two different states?

By
Industry Observer

I have known several agents that are licensed Real Estate agents in 2-3 different states.

I am interested in becoming licensed to sell Real Estate in another state. If there are any agents or brokers that are licensed in more than one state, please send me a comment and give me your opinion on this subject.

Do you think it's worth having a Real Estate license in another state?

Is it true that I only have to take the state test to become licensed in another state?

I look forward to reading your comments on this subject!

Happens all the time.  I'm in Arkansas and Missouri, I had to take tests in both States, both equally tough.  Yes to Vickie and Laura depends on where you're at.

You have to check the rules of that another state you think of... In some states you don't have to have residency...

Robert,

You can be licensed in more than one state, but you'll need a broker in each of those states to work through. :)

It is possible to do this and it will depend on if it is a connecting state as to how it is done.  Example, it is possible to be an agent in Missouri and Kansas but you do have to have a broker in each locale. I'm in WA State and started looking into getting a license in KS where my mom works as an agent.  I started taking the licensing courses and then ended up deciding that I just wasn't in town enough to make it worthwhile.

Several people in our broker's office have multi-state licenses but they also live part time in each area, such as Seattle and Palm Springs.  Or, WA and CA.  You should check with the state you're considering getting a license in to see if they provide reciprocity and what their licensing requirements are before moving forward.

Since you don't mention the motivation for why you'd do this, it's hard to recommend one way over another.  But, good luck!

Texas does NOT reciprocate so you would have to take all education classes and the exam to become licensed.  Then, find a broker to hang your license at.

I am licensed in both Texas (1st) and Florida (recently).  Florida does not recognize/reciprocate with Texas so I did have to take the class (that's right, only one) and the exam (which I was able to take in Austin, TX).  The Florida license was WAY EASIER.  Maybe because of 8 years experience, but the requirements were significantly less as well.

My friend moved back to Kentucky and after almost a year of maintaining a license in AL and KY, he decided it was too darned expensive to pay fees to both states.

Thank you for your letter and cards,,,,,I received them earlier this week. :)  I hope to figure out a way to visit Vegas and meet you and your adorable wife.

Hi! I am a realtor in Massachusetts and want to get my Florida and Nevada licenses. I wonder how the multistate business actually works. I am just trying to figure out how I can do this and am looking for advice from people who have done so. Also looking for books or articles. Thanks very much. Maybe we will work together some day in Las Vegas, Bob!

I have a resident Georgia license and an non-resident Florida license and I was wondering how I'd go about blogging on ActiveRain in both states?

Hello,
So I wonder if I'm able to get my license in Tennessee and Florida , Can I just work for one broker in my home state which is TN ?! Can I just work with Re-Max or any other national broker but only in one state and paying the whole fees for one broker instead of two ?!
Thanks,
George

Hello George ... check with your broker and I would think you could. I am licensed in Nevada and wanted to also become licensed in California. I would focus on (only) listings in Cali and home buyers in Nevada, which would give me the opportunity to live in Las Vegas NV and work all my listings for Cali through the internet.
