Being Flexible...

By
Home Inspector with Complete Home Inspections, Inc. TN Lic#050
Have you ever seen those folks that can bend, twist and contort their bodies in to positions that many of us can only fantasize doing in our wildest dreams? Man, I am doing to touch my toes. When I see folks do things like that, it kinda makes me want to wolf down another Twinke and chase it with a pitcher full of Half & Half - (helps relieve the guilt trip ya know). And, being flexible can certainly be an asset when it come to our day-to-day activities especially when our day goes to you-know-where in a hand basket! It certainly helps to keep your plumbing system from getting all upset. Speaking of plumbing...

Nashville TN home inspections, complete home inspections inc brentwood tnWhile inspecting a property in the urban area of Nashville, TN I ran across this situation where the home owner decided to be flexible when it came to installing the under sink plumbing. Talk about a sore sight for eyes, or is that a sight for sore eyes! Kinda get confused, ya know - old age and all..

Anyway, an impromptu menagerie like this, a plumbing trap does not make. So much for the adage "A real genius is one who is flexible and can solve the impossible problems presented to them with nothing more than 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration" - or something like that.....

Wishing all my fellow drips and tweeps a G-r-r-r-reat Weekend... 8-)

Michael, is that some sort of pipe patch with the hose clamp? Looks like this homeowner loved the plumbing dept at Home Depot.

OK. I am dense. Lets see - it will not leak, right? Cheaper than a plumber right?

Gary, Kathy hit the nail kinda sorta on the head. The flexible pipe can slow down the flow of water and the elongated trap can allow crud to build up due to sludge settling....

Gary I'm thinking Will it pass inspection?

Great Post Michael. I'm following your blog/tweets and enjoy them. Thanks for starting my day with a chuckle. (off for a twinkie with a half and half chaser) I can relate to that age/memory issue too, really bad to lose your train of thought in mid-sentence.

Hope you all have a great day!signature what if

You gotta give points for trying Michael but I don't think this would be the right thing for the plumbing (although the local plumber might like it when he comes to repair)

I can see this flex pipe becoming a real problem as those big ridges fill up with gunk. What were they thinking?!?!

Michael, why are all these things that are not allowed by code almost anywhere available for sale?  My favorites are the several varieties of "bottle" traps that people can buy.

Michael: It is amazing the things that home inspectors find these days.. Was this a auto repair job or a kitchen sink ?
