Life as a realtor is pretty wild and crazy... no two half hour blocks are the same.  There's a never ending To Do list, and someone always would like more of your time.  It's easy to get so engrossed in details that you forget there is a fun life out there.  To me real estate is WAY FUN.  But I'm talkin bonkers fun.  Get your groove on fun.  Wild and crazy fun.  That means putting on my goofy hat on occasion, and getting a little stupid.

Goofy dancing*I dance wild and crazy with my daughters all the time... in the kitchen, camping, a parking lot... wherever we are.  Music?... we don't need no stinkin music.

Dancing in the Kitchen

* This last thanksgiving we had a cowboy boot dance-off in our kitchen with my 85 year old Mom.  She got the powder blue boots!  Arlo, our drop in guest, had the most bizarre free-form dance contribution, that left my mom in stitches. Oh yeah... we ate turkey too.  And 7 pies ;)

*We've been dune buggying in Florence every summer for nearly 30 years with about 50-70 friends.  I'm a wiz at driving downwind, then whipping to the right as I crest a dune ridge, then accelerating down and across the face of the dune.  Whooweee... There's no feeling like it in the world... except gunning it through a hugh bowl, then cresting over the top going sideways.  I still find grains of sand in my ears on occasion. Don't even ask what we do with the Cuervo caps.

*After a 25 year hiatus, I decided to take up snow skiing again. Crap, what if I break my leg?... What if I ski into a tree?  Wanna know what wild and crazy thing happened?  I found a 2 carat diamond ring!  Now that's crazy.

Me and my guitar*At 57, as I slide into old ladyhood, I decided I didn't want to die without being able to play the guitar.  So I bought a red Fender Acoustic/Electric, found me a  long-haired guitar teacher, and I'm learning.  Has it been easy?  Heck, no. I spent 1 week solid, 45 minutes a day, on a two measure rift in Landslide.   But on the 6th day, I did it.  Not fast... but perfect.  OOOWWWWW!  Now that's fun.  Today I'm working on Tears in HeavenProgress, not perfection Eric... move over, Baby.

*For my realtor pal's 50th birthday, I secretly wrote her a song about how her truck driving daddy let her drive his big-rig as a 13 year old down the Grapevine in a snow storm - true story! She was sitting on a phone book. (if that ain't one dead dog away from a country western song, I'll eat my hat!).  I got up at her party, and sang it to her.  Her eyes were as big as saucers, and she didn't scrape her jaw off her chest til I was done. Then she quit crying. (I't called Patti on the Highway, sung to "What was I Thinkin".)  Now THAT was fun.

Dunin with my hunny* We raise big bucks at our office for the Salvation Army. (nearly $200K in recent years). One fundraiser party was a Persian themed party called Cinco de Silk Road (last cinco de mayo).  It started off a Pakistani dinner, but turned into the wildest shindig ever.  I just jumped into unmapped sand dunes and came up with bizarre games where the costumed participants earned jewels and treasures from the Silk Road.  They had to trade with each other to end up with their own assigned list of goods.  The poetry contest was hilarious - writing  a poem using the word "Timbuktu".  The final event was a belly dance contest for the "Sword of Ali Baba".  And who won??? Denghis Khan (Dennis) followed by Ali Bob a (Bob).  And (sorry Dennis), but he is a pot bellied middle aged realtor... who knew? The neighbors still don't know what hit them.

Do I risk a little ribbing for some of my antics?  Uh,, yeah.. a little.  Ok, a lot. But as Denghis Khan said after his wife informed him how humiliated she was at his bare-belly hip-gyrating performance  -"Work hard... play hard"  I'll second that!

We know you work hard... what do you do to play hard?

Carlos - we all need reminders sometimes... you're welcome

Sandy - Orlando sounds like fun.  gives us a little perspective.

TLW - Driving toys into the lake... stay away from my dune buggy, girl.... actually you'ld be fun.  I took my broker's daughter for a wild ride a few years ago up in florence.  She squeeled like a girl... Oh that's what she was!  She was a kick.

Caron - Yeppers about family.  Mine is so fun.  We always held out as the providers of fun for our daughters.  They never wanted to screw up, cause they knew that the fun would stop if they did.  We never gave them anything to revolt against.  We were their fun ticket on an E ride.

Al & Peggy - Easter ears... criminy, I don't have mine yet.  Where's Sheldon when we need him.  Probably changing a diaper.

Heck Yeah, BB.... but I never had this much fun in my childhood.  It took gettin in my 40's and 50's to really cut loose.  Well, not exactly... I do remember a few nights in college when I cut a pretty good rug.... OK, more than a few nights.... Ok I had fun.  It WAS the 60's afterall.

But go for it, guy.... "Damned the Torpedos... Full Speed Ahead", I say.

Hi Sally!
A FEATURE...see? You couldn't help but get one...and I am sure this is the start of many! congrats!  My playing hard consists of riding Waverunners, going all out fast and then a quick turn to do a 360!  Too fun!  Other than that, I am not so much  a wild and crazy girl...I like sliding across the kitchen in my stocking feet or singing at the top of my lungs (only when alone in my car!).  I would like to learn line-dancing, so maybe that will be in my future!

This year I've ridden a camel in the Sahara, climbed around inside a pyramid, floated down the Nile, spent a day on public transportation exploring Madrid and it's only April.  I like to play very hard--the same way I work.  I also make big plans---I'm hoping December finds me dancing the tango in Argentina.

Fredyt3 (can I call you Fred?..) Glad you love my boots... I'm wearing a pair of brown and green ones right now.  They all laugh at me in the office, but I know they are right, wrong, nuts, stupid, just jealous!

Pat - Glad you like to have fun.  Noons with the girls can be pretty fun.. although I alway seem to be glued to my desk, reading AR blogs....

Paula... Holy crap... how'ld that happen?  I didn't even know.  How fun... just like Janet Guilbault's post on your first house, I'll always remember my first (and maybe last!) featured article.  I think getting on BB's radar might have something to do with it.  "It's lik hittin the bloggin jekpot!"

Norma - good for you! Don't stop with the Tango... two years ago I rode across the Patagonia plains on a gaucho's horse at full gallop... and I'm not a horse rider.  I just figured the horse would know how to get back.  Talk about damned the torpedoes!  You can do it!  I love your Egypt pic... cute camel, too.  I believe travel makes us a citizen of the world.  It expands your mind to include more connections in your spaghetti plate flying thru space.

When I bought my iPOD a couple of years ago they asked me what I wanted engraved on the back...I opted for "Work Hard, Play Harder!"  I live on a lake in the Texas Hill Country and there is nothing like wakeboarding, kayaking and jet skiing!  Talk about leaving the world of real estate behind for a bit!  I also got my Class M (motorcycle) driver's license a couple of years ago and I am working hard...to get a Harley!  I love to ride and we have some of the most gorgeous roadways in the state in my area.  My son and I love to do all of the above activities together!

So true Sally.. I don't let a weekend slip by without play. Infact last weekend I had a client appt showing homes, and even though it went 1 hour longer than scheduled. My next appt scheduled that  afternoon  was a trip to the local wineries. Having fun...everyone should do it. It makes for a much happier Realtor!

Brandi - you LOOK like a happy realtor!  And as for family, don't let being a realtor stop you (although if you don't have a hubby, that could pose a problem - but you gotta handle that one) I started selling full time when my girls were 3 and 5... traded play dates, found a drop in day care that charged by the minutes, and had tremendous support from my fabby hubby, and it was a great career to have with young kids.  I was very active in their schools, and ended up selling a lot of homes to people thru school.  In fact, I just returned from handing over the keys to a beaming first time buyer who my daughter wnet to school with since kindergarten.

I bribed them in to hoping I would do open houses by paying them $10 for each house I sold.  That changed them from whining that I was gone, to asking why I wasn't out trying to make them $10 on a sunday afternoon! I could write a book right now... but I'm hungry.  Thanks for stopping by.

Chris - If we WERE stranded on a desert island, I'ld channel the spirit of my marvy hubby - because he'd build us a way off.  If not, he'd laugh at as we played games all day, and had a hootenanny each night. What can you sing?

Dawn - some days, I'm sure the people in my office would be glad, too!

Gary - You are so supportive of everyone here at the rain.  Your little spaghetti plate flying thru space has left quite a visual impression on me.  Thanks for being such a supportive soul.  Bro.

Christine - Building memories is what it's all about.  Even simple card games are fun.  When we camp, we are trying to set the record for multiple hand of solitaire... so far we've had 6 of us playing at the same time... a little crazy, but WAY fun.  The ole idea of quality time is BS... kids need quantity of quality time.

My work is my play. I play hard 24 / 7 -- if I'm not listing or selling real estate in Sacramento, then I'm writing a book or working on my About.com site, adding more articles. This is FUN for me. I am passionate about the business. Which probably makes me sort of a screwball -- a dedicated screwball, I may add.

For example, I love photography, so when I shoot photos that I particularly like, whether it's a photo of a Land Park Tudor or people at the Farmers Market under the W/X freeway, I post those pictures on my blog and talk about them.

I also enjoy remodeling projects -- whether they are my own or somebody else's. I write about those projects, too. If I go on vacation (OK, at least once a year I take a week or two off or my husband would disown me), I blog about vacations, and they typically end up involving something real estate-related. I love people and I love to write, so real estate is a perfect fit for me.
