I've shared before about my daughter Sarah.......the Jiu Jitsu fighter......The story goes something along the lines........ I always used to tell my kids - "it doesn't matter what you do....as long as you feel passionate about it"......Blog Entry: Are You Tuning in To Your Inner Passion? - What Lights Your Fire? ...well for Sarah this is the big IT! Last night was the Big Event!

She's been training for 2 1/2 years........and this was her 2nd fight.....Last year she won her first Fight by Decision........Last Night she won in the First Round by Submission.

I probably don't have to tell you about a mother's heart right?

She wouldn't let me come watch -because she thought I'd freak out........well I might have.......but I don't think so............so I had to settle for sitting and waiting on pins and needles at home........about 9:45 pm...........I got a text message from her sister Rachel saying..."Sarah kicked that girl's ass  butt  in the first round".........

After my initial relief......I thought about that girl's Mom...:-(............nevertheless......they call it a sport...........and its definitely Sarah's THANG! :-)  Catch the photos.......

 Fame for a day

"Team Aiki's Sarah Moras (red) battles with Columbia's Amber Grant and comes out with a win. Moras fought her way out of a chokehold to gain 'full mount' and deliver a series of undefended blows that eventually resulted in a win by armbar submission. Grant would fight again the following evening at an event"

Wow,  Fast, tough, smart and cute.  Looks like she didn't even have to break a sweat.  Good for her that she is doing what she loves.  And don't worry Mom, Sarah appears to be able to take care of herself just fine.  When is she fighting in Seattle?  We can go and we'll hold your hand.

Hi Liz... Congrats to Sarah.  Not surprising though... knowing how much passion her mom has, it's no surprise that Sarah's passion would carry her to success in any field or endeavour of her choosing.

Good for you ....a parents' support is sooo important. I remember my Mother saying she would rather my brother break is front tooth on a clarinet than the football field....he chose track and field...she was relieved...but it is a choice a child makes....and learns from...whatever the sport...if you are the best or the worst...it's an important life lesson.

Liz, I think that's so cool. My son and I compete in Tae Kwon Do and I used to have a hard time watching him in tournaments but I got used to it. It's always nice to see anyone, especially kids have passion for something.

Hi Liz - Congratulations to Sarah.  I don't know about a mother's feelings here but I'm sure dad would be proud.  Of course, with a daughter with those skills, you'd never have to worry about her having any problems on a date.

Hi Ms Chilliwack !

I always live by the creed "Go after your dreams with a passion" and it looks like your daughter went all out for her passion for Jiu Jitsu !!

Congrats to her for a pretty stunning first round victory, and congrats to you for being able to get through it without biting your fingernails down to your knuckles !!!

Cheers Liz !

Liz - Congratulations to your daughter.  Guess you don't have to worry about the boys getting out of line!  At least she didn't tell you she wanted to grow up and be like Gino Odjick.

Congrats to your daughter, Liz!  I used to do a lot of martial arts, and for her to attain that level of competitiveness means she's paid some very dear prices - and a ton of hard work and dedication.  If it's her passion, then just stand back and watch her go!   ;-)

Fighting is something that doesn't make sense to me. Why do we not allow dog fighting and cock fighting in their controlled rings, but we do allow people to beat up on people in controlled rings. Something's wrong with that picture.
