Gunning for Greed!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with HomeRome Realty 410-530-2400 311291

Water GunThere was a lot of reaction to my post about greedand some very greedy squirrels. After reading some of the comments on my post, TLH,  Lee took a comment seriously and  went out and bought a water gun to help in our attempt at behavior modification and attitude adjustment.

It's called "The Equalizer", and with a range of more than 40 feet he can really have fun getting after those greedy critters. Does it work? Well, it is very accurate and immediately effective but only if you actually hit one. Just getting close was not good enough. Tough little critters. Don't know about long term lasting effects. I have a feeling there will be none.

For the animal lovers out there, don't worry – the squirrels still have their own feeder. All Lee is doing is teaching them which feeder they can eat from and which is reserved for birds.

I think Lee will tire before the squirrels. What do you think

We've done that with birds, and they never learn.  They'll keep coming back.  Negative reenforecment should work, but not in all cases.

Hi Margaret, I have never tried to train squirrels but I have a feeling it may be impossible to do.

Geesh!  Have a heart!  They don't have any acorns to eat this year!  The little guys are hungry!  Did nutsy check in with a comment?

That is one serious deterrent. At least it's water.  I hear stuff like that is great for keeping cats from scratching the furniture, too.

Hi Margaret - I think I need me one of those 'equalizers' for the squirrels here, too.  I really dislike it when I see one of them has found their way onto one of my bird feeders.  I have squirrel-proof caps, etc., and still once in awhile one of them manages to get up there somehow.  I make loud noises to scare them off - sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

Love the water gun.  You should get two and then you can have water fights in the warmer weather.

We have a lot of those pesky squires by us too.  They will eat just about anything.

they need to eat too! Be nice and let them feed  on what they can find. What goes around comes around! How would you like to be hit with a water gun while you eat, because you have to.

Ha ha, Margaret. Bet he is having fun. But in my experience squirrels don't learn very well. They will remembr for the shrot term, but next day their little brains will have forgotten and the desire for food will take over. But at least it is good sport. So a few pics of the action? Or a video?

Margaret- need to get one of those. My hubby has purple martin houses and the starlings always try to take it over. This would be a great and harmless way to make them shoo.

Hi Margaret...I think it is my kind of gun.  About the only kind I like except I don't want to be shot with one of these either.  It should teach those squirrels a thing or two if Lee learns to hit the target.

Everything we have only comes out at night.  The water gun would have been great at college though, those squirrels were scary!

Margaret,

Squirrels are the most inquisitive, ingenious critters on the planet.  They'll be at it long after Lee gives up the water gun for a well-deserved brandy.

Michele, Sure, but do you think you can afford him?

Greg, The pitter patter of little feet..they are on my roof.

Geri, Nice seeing you. You have that picture of Lee just right.

Donna, hmm..negative reinforcement should work.

Shirley, As easy as herding cats!

Patricia K, The feeders are because of the acorn shortage. Who's nutsy? Anyone in particular?

Ken, Great idea. We alos have a couple of neighborhood cats going after the birds

Ann, Ha...there does not seem to be a squirrel proof cap. I have tried to loud noises, clapping my hands, slamming the door, tossing pine cones.BTW that toy cost a whopping 10 bucks..treat yourself.

Josef, Oooh dueling water guns..sounds like fun...not!

Tammy, Have a feeling that Lee will "outgrow" the gun very soon. Want me to send it to you?

Patricia A., I am being nice to them, giving them their own feeder. I really enjoy the critters.

Jeff, A good sport. It would be fun to set a video camera up to catch the action...but then when would I do my real estate?

Martha, Want to start a group for our hubbies?

Kate, You and me both. He will tire long before the squirrels.

Krista, My husband only the idea from AR. I need to check who gave that suggestion.

Mike, Think you are right. Maybe those playful critters are here to amuse us.

Bill, You boys do like your toys!

NOPE please don't send it.  I have one "nutsy" agent who keeps shooting the rest of us people with our little water gun... don't want her to get her hands on that dandy.
