Blog With A Passion!

passionIt is hard for me to comprehend that I've only been blogging here on ActiveRain now for a little over 2 months. In just a short time I've seen more results than I ever knew were possible and I fear I'm becoming addicted to this site. I am convinced though that it's not such a bad thing.

Every day I spend some time reading quite a few blogs from the community to see what people are talking about. It never ceases to amaze me that there are people out there that consistently post blogs with little or no significant content. It seems like most of their blogs consist mainly of rants and have little or nothing to do with their business.

Now don't get me wrong, I am no stranger to sending out a few blogs a week for my own SEO and marketing purposes, but what I'm referring to is different. You see in the wide world of blogging it doesn't really matter what other bloggers think about you and your style. Here on ActiveRain however most of us participate with the goal of reaching our consumers and marketing to them. If you are throwing up sloppy blogs with little content and even less effort it really does reflect on YOU.

Even at the expense of taking more time to learn new writing skills, developing better content and expanding your capacity in the online world, it is ALWAYS worth the time invested. less is not moreHere are just a few ways you can begin to attract new clients by blogging with a passion!

Less is NOT More: In the information highway it is so important to understand that less content means less traffic. I cannot tell you how many phones calls I've received in recent weeks from people who have read my posts. I have tried a few times (not even thinking) to explain who I am and have been stopped mid sentence only to be told "I already know everything I need to know about you and I am very impressed."

Wow!

People surfing the internet really do pay close attention to detail. What is the point of blogging at all on a Real Estate website if you aren't marketing yourself? Are you that busy that you have that much extra time to just come here and chat and not bring in new business? Is so, let us know what you are doing cause we all want a piece of that action!

Stay on Point: In the past few weeks I have seen so many people write blogs who seem to be trying to get more attention as journalists than real estate professionals. Sure we all discuss things about the news and want to make them relevant somehow, but take some time to REALLY critique your blog posts. Ask yourself every time, "What is this saying to my customers about me?" Try and always put something important in your blog posts that your customers should know about YOU. rock point

Recently I went through and read this person's entire blog history here on Activerain. I would venture to say that less than 5% of the blogs had anything to do with their job as a real estate agent and most of it was rants or complaints that were free for the PUBLIC to view. What kind of a message do you think people get when they actually find this person's profile?

Blog Passionately: What is it that you love to do? Where do you enjoy to visit and vacation? What exciting thing happened to you over the past few weeks?

So many people I know are so apprehensive to let people really see who they are. You would be surprised at how many consumers and clients will not only share some of your same likes and experiences, but also respect you and trust you because of them.

Sure this site is for networking, sharing stories, talking about life and the news, but more importantly this site and everything we do in our business is about US. Take time to read what you are writing and put your heart and soul into it.

When people know you truly care about the business you do they will know they can trust you and business will come to you. So resolve today to BLOG WITH A PASSION!

I like your passion Jacob.  I think you are right, it takes a balanced blogging "Portfolio" to really be effective.  People want to see all sides of you, not just facts or figures, but also what you are passionate about!

Great post Jacob.  Is your wife doing better?  Please tell her that she is in my prayers.

Jonathan ~ I agree with you 100%. Too few people are really talking about what really matters to them and are missing out on opportunities to really connect with their clients. Thanks for the post :)

Karen ~ She is doing better now. It is never easy seeing someone so close to you go so fast, but she is doing better. I'll let her know of your kind words. Thanks as always Karen.

Sharing stories about your business and situations in your business helps customers and other agents know how you deal with things - that's very helpful information for them.

Hi Jacob - I am diligently working on 'more is more is better'.....!!!  I firmly believe as you do that more local content makes you more visible.  Now, I just need to put that in action and build up my local content  for my areas.

Thanks for the reminder!

I agree with what you are saying.  I have gotten so busy that it is difficult to find time to blog.  I try to do some reading and keep up with the comments, however, I would rather put together a meaningful blog rather than just post something for the sake of gettting some points.  I work for buyers with a passion and I do most things in life with passion!  I am going to try to get a blog about my favorite passion completed -- However, it may have to wait until I help a gentleman relocate from the South to the NH.  He could never do this with a "Redfin" type company.  I have spent hours assisting this gentleman with a difficult transition to be closer to his sister who was diagnosed with cancer - so he can help her and be there for her young daugher!

Jacob - I am also new to blogging and hear so many different opinions. Some say make it all local, some say make it all about real estate and don't talk about your self. What's a person to do??? I agree There is no time for a useless blog - although I have a few! Oooops! I strive to be better every day! Thanks for sharing!

An excellent reminder to all of us, Jacob.  Thank you for taking the time to point out the importance of it.  And it really is easy to write passionately about something you love to do, while at the same time educating the public.

Jacob, I couldn't agree more with your comments.  Let me add a few more:

When commenting on other members' posts, try to add more more value than just saying "Good post!"

Please read what you wrote and correct mistakes before clicking the "submit" button.

Pay attention to which classes of readers you are posting.  "Members Only" subjects should not be sent to the public, and Localism topics should not be posted to all real estate professionals in distant states.

Put some relevance in your posts.  Everyone else can easily figure out those members who are just filling space to get points every day.  Offenders may collect points, but but their empty points will not help them acquire business from the public or useful relationships with other members.

Thank you for your post! It encourages me to Blog More!  I find I am learning a great deal about myself, the market, and how we all need to work together!!

Jacob,

It's true that we sometimes fail to focus on why we blog. That it's about us and our customers and our business. A good blog starts with that in mind.

Jacob, I agree, this is a people business and people want to do business with people they know and like.  This is a great way to find out that information.
