My mother asked me that question 20+ years ago.  "You only need a real estate agent once in your life!" she stated when I made the decision to change careers.

I first thought about real estate as a career more than 10 years before I finally took the plunge into real estate.  Throughout grade school & high school I planned to be a teacher and graduated with a degree in education from Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.  However after sixteen years as a middle school teacher I knew I was getting burned out and needed a change.  I spent two years investigating possible career options.  I always had good reasons why I couldn't or shouldn't do real estate.  Finally I ran out of excuses and why nots about real estate as my new career.  I haven't regreted my decision.  Ever!

My mother still lives in the home she & my father bought in 1950.

Mary - You made a good decision I believe. This career has many rewards in it as you are still helping people with the biggest decision of their lives. Congrats on your other years of service.

Only one thing I noticed in your comments, I am not sure it is correct to be linking back to yourself in the comments. FYI.

Not a criticism but I believe this might be an etiquette no no. Check the FAQ's pages.

thanks for the post though and have a great day. :-)

Matt--Love is the best word to describe how I have always felt about real estate and now teaching real estate classes.  Thanks for stopping by my puddle in the rain.
