Our household has an account with Blockbuster so that we basically always have three movies here to watch. We've been with Blockbuster for about fifteen years now and were one of the first to sign up to their online mail service which they implemented in response to competition from Netflix.
I've been very happy with the service, except for one very minor thing -- I NEVER GET TO PICK THE MOVIES!
My marketing guru manages the account, and he and I generally have different tastes in movies. He likes the horror movies, action flicks, and science fiction. The more destruction in the movie, the better he likes the movie.
He was watching a movie last night that I caught bits and pieces of -- and it looked interesting -- so I watched it while he was out at a home inspection today since the movie is only 81 minutes long. It's titled "How To Rob A Bank," and stars no one I've ever heard of.
I don't know what genre the movie is, but it thought it was hilarious.
This young guy having financial difficulties finally gets tired of all the service fees and taxes that every company seems to charge him -- local tax, county tax, state tax, federal tax, 911 surcharge, portable number surcharge, monthly service fee, overdraft fee, etc. One day he checks his bank balance to find he only has $20. Fortunately, all he needs is $20, so he goes to the ATM to withdraw $20. Nope. There's a service fee of $1.50 for the withdrawal, so the withdrawal would cause an overdraft, which has an overdraft fee associated with it, so he has can't withdraw his final $20.
He goes to the bank only to find out that there's no way to get that final $20 because even if he closes his account, there's an account termination fee.
While he's in the bank, the bank gets robbed. From there the fun begins. If you need some off-Broadway humor, try "How To Rob a Bank." It's totally fun and unexpected, from the beginning to the ending.

Jim, thanks for the movie review, Sounds like a fun movie.I'll check to see if my library has it I usually take dvds from the Library or my local Redboc at Stop and Shop
Hey, Kathleen.
Our libraries here are lacking on DVDs, probably because the city is $43 million in the red and the city's pension fund is something like $2 billion in debt.
I've never seen that movie...but it sounds funny.
That's the kind of movies I like. I try not to watch horror movies either.
Jim, I love your review and I am with you about horror movies.....I totally stay away from them since I saw the Exorcist and had nightmares for months and had to sleep with the lights on!!
Jim: this sounds fun and I'm looknig for a good one. Your mention of Blockbuster made me go "uh-oh" I need to return the DVD that I forgot to put in the box.
Hi Jim: Sounds like a good movie - what year was it made (is it a new release or and old one)?
:)
Hey, Matt - It's from 2007. I don't remember ever seeing it advertised at the theaters.
Speaking of robbing banks you should check out "Disorganized Crime". It's, by far, one of my all-time favorites. It has some decent stars including Fred Gwynne, Ed O'Neill (a.k.a. Al Bundy), Lou Diamond Phillips, and Corbin Bernsen. A very funny movie.
I will definitely check out your recommendation, since the "Robbery" theme is one of my favorites when it comes to flicks.
Hey, Joshua.
I'll tell Russel about it. Wasn't Fred Gwynne one of the officers in Car 54 Where Are You? and maybe Herman Munster? The name sounds familiar.
